Chapter 21
In the next moment, hidden from Janet’s perception, Parker’s eyes rolled in thought and an unsettling idea began to form in his mind.
He could no longer have a child with Michelle, but he also would not tolerate another life taking that place!
Unlike the chaos between the Browning and Smith families, Dallas City remained tranquil.
Michelle had developed the ability to stand on her own. Several times, when Kenneth went on business trips, she took over the company’s operations entirely.
Even Anya, a workaholic with high standards, sincerely praised her, “As expected of my

On the day Kenneth returned from one of his trips, Michelle went to the airport to pick him up as usual. To her surprise, she saw him accompanied by a woman she had never met before.
“Ken!” Michelle waved at Kenneth. “Who’s this?” she asked nervously, a strange sense of unease creeping into her chest.
Kenneth introduced the woman straightforwardly, “This is my mentor from when I studied abroad, Beatrice Landow. She’s planning to return to U.K to work.”
Relief washed over Michelle, though she wasn’t sure why she had felt so tense. Beatrice smiled politely and extended her hand toward Michelle, “Kenneth has

mentioned his younger sister many times
before. Seeing you in person, you’re indeed a lovely young lady!”
“Thank you,” Michelle returned the smile, “You’re very beautiful as well.”
Understanding their relationship, Beatrice tactfully made her exit, citing an excuse before hailing a taxi.
The atmosphere between Michelle and Kenneth on their way home was subtle and hard to define. Neither knew quite what to
say.
“Your mentor seems very young. She must be highly skilled,” Michelle said casually, trying to find a topic.
This comment opened Kenneth’s floodgate of admiration, “She’s indeed exceptional, she

was the youngest professor at our university at the time.”
“She’s also very beautiful. Back then, more than half the male students in our school pursued her. It caused quite a few amusing scenes.” As he spoke, Kenneth’s eyes softened with a smile, making Michelle’s heart clench slightly.
Before she could think, she blurted out, “Did you ever pursue her?”
The car suddenly pulled over to the side of the road.
Kenneth turned to her, staring intently. After a moment of silence, he asked, “If I had, would you mind?”
Michelle was momentarily dazed and stammered nervously, “Did you actually

pursue her?” Then she realized her reaction might have been too strong. She hastily
added, “Of course not! It’s your private matter. Why would I care?”
Despite her attempt to cover it up, Michelle couldn’t force a smile. The truth was, she did care, more than she wanted to admit.
Kenneth’s lips curled into a meaningful smile as he suddenly leaned closer to her, “Michelle, why are you flustered?”
Her heartbeat skipped a beat as she froze in place. A feather–light kiss brushed against her lips.
Close to her ear, Kenneth’s low voice
resonated, “No, I didn’t. In my twenty- something years of life, the only person I’ve ever wanted to pursue is you.”

and only you. Michelle, will you give me a chance?” His words struck her like a
thunderclap.
Michelle felt as if she were dreaming.
Kenneth had said that the one he wanted was her, only her.
“You…” Tears welled up in her eyes, a mix of astonishment and the relief of finally reaching the light after enduring hardships. She didn’t know how to respond.
“It’s okay.” Kenneth ruffled her hair affectionately. “You have plenty of time to think it over. You don’t need to answer me right now.”
