Chapter 3
“Didn’t mean it, you said?” I sneered and questioned him, “Paige has been here for two months. How many times have the team had dinner? Everyone knows that I am allergic to peanuts, but she doesn‘ t know?”
Harley’s defense was exposed by me on the spot.
He clenched the towel in his hand, rubbed it twice and then let it go.
“Didn’t she say that it was the store’s problem? Why do you have to argue with her? I’ll buy you another one now. Are you satisfied now?”
As he said, he threw the towel on the bed and turned away, leaving me alone again.
Forget it, I didn’t care anymore.
Not long after, the takeaway was delivered, but Harley disappeared.

He sent a message on the phone: [Paige had a car accident. I’ll go and see and come back later.]

He never cared whether I was the co–pilot
or the back seat.
Whenever he noticed these details, it must be that the team had problems to solve.
He needed to refer to my opinion.
Harley’s eyes dodged. He cleared his throat and said, “Next to you is the performance data of this modified racing car. After the test drive, they found that the body was unstable. They adjusted it several times, but it didn’t solve it. Actually, there’s no rush…”
I was unmoved and perfunctorily said,
“I’ll check it later.”
Harley was stunned.
He thought I would check the data
immediately and solve the problem as soon
as possible, like before.
He didn’t expect that I didn’t care this time and didn’t even touch the file.
He laughed dryly and made small talk.

“Well, you‘ re not well yet, let’s see in two days.
I played mobile games with one hand and didn’t take his words seriously at all.
As soon as I entered the door, I saw Paige wearing my apron and busy in the kitchen.
“Monica, Paige has been feeling guilty about making you allergic last time, so she cooked to make amends for you.”
Harley behind him explained in a flattering
tone.
Paige greeted enthusiastically, “Monica, you‘ re back! Sit down quickly. Don’t be shy. I’ll have the meal ready soon.”
Seeing her like a hostess, I went back to the
room.
I took out the suitcase and put away the trophy.
I didn’t want other unimportant things.
Only these trophies were my biggest gains in the past few years.

Harley knocked on the door and reminded me, “Monica, it’s time to eat.”
I put the suitcase away and went to the dining room.
Paige placed a bowl of chicken soup on the table, her face full of apology.
“Monica, I’m really sorry for what
happened last time. I specially stewed chicken soup for you to nourish your body.”
I looked at the bowl of greasy chicken soup and couldn’t help but think of her little
trick last time.
I suddenly lost my appetite.
I said lightly, “I’m not hungry.”
Harley’s face turned cold. “Monica, Paige is being kind–hearted. What‘ s with your attitude?”
“Harley.” Paige grabbed his sleeve and sobbed softly, “Don’t be mean to Monica. It’s my fault. I made Monical
