I don’t know how to describe what I was
feeling.
I just stared at her. Maybe my stare was too
much. She turned her head to look at me.
“Hello, I’m Meng Ran, I teach here,”
Her phone started ringing. And the smile on her

face turned shy.
“Sorry, that’s my boyfriend,”
She went to the dance studio to take the call.
I don’t know what they were talking about. She
came out soon and her call was over.
“I have things to do. I’ll go first.”
She left. Jane and I went to the exit.
And when I was out the door, I saw Mark.
His back was to me. But after all these years, I
knew him right away.
Mark pulled Meng Ran into his arms and kissed
her cheek.
Meng Ran pushed him away. Like she was
being a little difficult. But Mark was enjoying it.

He got a big bouquet of roses from the car.
They looked like a sweet couple.
Jane and I stood next to each other and also
saw everything.
She didn’t recognize Mark. So she just said,
“Ms. Meng and her boyfriend are so cute.”
I nodded. “Yeah, very cute.”
My heart was full of bitterness. I can’t
remember what happiness felt like.
As they were getting into the car.
My phone buzzed, it was my lawyer. He had
sent the electronic version of the agreement.
So, I called Mark right away.
He was in the car with Meng Ran. Holding the

phone with one hand and holding Meng Ran
with the other.
His voice didn’t sound different.
“Sarah, why are you calling me all of a sudden?
Is your work over? I’ll go pick you up at the
airport?”
Meng Ran seemed unhappy and bit Mark’s arm.
“Humph…”
Mark mumbled. Then he patted her head. And
said to me. “Sarah, I just bumped into
something.”
I “ummed” and just went into the main topic.
“8pm tonight. I’ll be at home. I have important
things to discuss.”
Right when I was done, Meng Ran wrapped her
arm around Mark.

Then they had a kiss.
I tightened my grip on my phone. I was sad but I
acted calm. I finished the call.
“This is important. Don’t forget.”
“Yeah, I got it.”
Right after I was done, Mark ended the call.
And kissed Meng Ran.
