Love is over and all ties are
severed.
Chapter 1
In my past life, I was just some nobody who
happened to rescue a kidnapped socialite,
Tiffany Sutton. I worked my tail off at four
dead–end jobs, pouring every ounce of
energy into turning her into a pampered.
princess.
Then, bam, she gets found, and suddenly, it’s
like those years never happened. She made
sure nobody even breathed a word about her
“rough patch.”
Her grandpa, Mr. Sutton, felt like he owed me
something, so he asks me what I want.
Being the naive idiot I was, I blurted out. “I
want to marry Tiffany. I want to take care of
her forever.”
What I didn’t know was that the second she
stepped back into her fancy mansion, Tiffany
had her eyes set on some Wall Street hotshot,
Luke Huntington. After we got hitched, she
treated me like I was dirt. Every time I even
touched her hand, she’d grab a wipe like I had
the plague.
Then she gets pregnant, and to avoid being
branded a heartbreaker while still hooking up
with her dream guy, Luke.
Tiffany straight–up shoves me off the roof of
our penthouse. Her last words still ring in my
ears: “Luke always comes first. Anyone else is
just a placeholder.”
<
“Danny, you’re just a poor nobody. You were
never good enough for me.”
I wake up gasping, back in the Suttons‘
library, the old man asking me what I want.
This time, I ditch the delusions. I booked a
one–way ticket outta New York for next
week.
Cool as a cucumber, I tell Mr. Sutton, “I just
want some cash to get me started, then I’m
outta here.”
“Gotta chase my own dreams, ya know?”
“What? You’re really going to give up on
Tiffany?”
Г
The old guy was flabbergasted. Everyone
knew I was head–over–heels for Tiffany. They
all figured I’d cash in my “saving her life” card
and force her to marry me.
And that’s exactly what I did the first time
around.
All I got was a cold shoulder, constant sneers,
and a death sentence…
The bone–crushing pain of that fall is still
fresh. I can still see the relief in Tiffany’s eyes
as she pushed me.
Not this time. I take a deep breath, plaster on
a fake smile, and tell Mr. Sutton, “Tiffany and
I are from different worlds. She deserves
better.”
<
“I want to find my own path. Just hoping you
can help me make it happen.”
The old man was silent for a minute, then
sighed, “You’re right. You two are too
different. It would never work.”
“But the Suttons appreciate you saving her
and turning her into such a fine woman. Name
your price.”
He looks at me, his eyes full of concern,
“Danny, you don’t have to leave New York. I
can set you up for life right here.”
I shook my head, looking down, “Birds gotta
fly, Mr. Sutton. I need to see what life is like
without Tiffany calling the shots.”
“Just, uh, don’t tell her I’m leaving yet, okay?
く
She’s swamped with work since taking over
the company. Don’t want her getting
distracted.”
It was almost dark when I left the Sutton
mansion.
I barely got my hand on the car door before
my phone buzzed. It was Tiffany. Last time,
she’d already been trading heart–eyes with
Luke by now.
But I used my “savior” card to force her old
man to make her marry me.
I was blinded by this twisted idea of
happiness back then and didn’t suspect
anything until I caught Tiffany and Luke
<
making out. That’s when I realized she was
head over heels for another guy.
Snapping out of my thoughts, I answered the
call.
Before I could even say hello, Tiffany roared,
“Danny! I asked you to bring those files over.
Are you dead? Do you even know how long
it’s been?”
“You can’t even handle one simple thing!
What good are you?!”
