I tried to go in, but security stopped me.
“Sorry, ma’am, we’re closed today.”
I pointed to the car that just went in. “I just
saw a car go in.”
“Yeah, they rented out the whole park.”
I waited at the gate for 40 minutes, but
Mark’s car didn’t come out.
Then, another anonymous text.
A video.
It was shaky, like someone was secretly
filming. All I could hear was heavy breathing.
My stomach turned. I almost threw up.
<
I laughed, to myself.
Mark and I always talked about going to
Disneyland.
But he said I was too old for that.
So I stopped bringing it up.
And now he’d rented the whole damn park to
have an affair.
It was pathetic.
I had an idea and looked up the new intern,
Amy Carter, on social media.
She posted something recently.
く
“Meeting up early. He said he missed me all
night and couldn’t wait, OMG!”
So it was her.
Two and a half hours later, Mark finally came
home.
He saw the food untouched and looked
worried. “Not hungry?”
“You gotta take care of yourself. Eat this,
even if you don’t like it.‘
I forced a smile. “I’m sick of it.”
“Still gotta eat it. You need to get better.”
I didn’t say anything. I just told him I wasn’t
going to work that day.
Mark noticed something was wrong. He
frowned. “Hey, what’s up? Am I in trouble?
I’ve been working late. Are you mad?”
Knowing he was just with some other woman
made me want to puke.
I choked out, “No, I’m not a little girl. I’m not
jealous.”
When he left for a meeting that afternoon, I
opened his laptop.
The password was my birthday. He was
always logged into his social media.
The latest message was from Amy.
The messages were short.
<
Amy: ?
Mark: OK.
It wasn’t the way a CEO talks to an intern.
He was hiding something.
Using Mark’s account, I couldn’t see Amy’s
posts.
She must have blocked me.
I scrolled through her page.
She never mentioned Mark by name, but
sometimes she posted pictures of things that
would give it away.

I should have noticed Amy sooner.
She was pretty, and she had the same energy
I had when I was younger.
She got promoted to the executive office
pretty fast.
But I trusted Mark.
I guess my trust made it easier for him to
cheat.
