Chapter 8
“Annalise, you finally answered the phone…”
“Where did you go? I called you but you didn’t answer, and you didn’t reply to my messages. I thought something happened to you.”
“Didn’t you like that wedding dress? I could reorder it.”
“Or do you think my entire savings were not sincere enough? If you think it’s not enough, I worked my ass off for it. Can you please not suddenly disappear? I furrowed my brows in confusion. He has already married Isabel, so what is he trying to act all sentimental with me now?”
Did he feel that their wedding was incomplete because I didn’t serve as Isabel’s bridesmaid?
He didn’t h
have a good influence when he got me pregnant before marriage. When I was alone in the hospital having an abortion, I didn’t see him worrying about me getting into trouble either.
“Asher, I wish you and your family a happy newlywed life.”
He was panting anxiously on the other end of the phone, “Annalise, what are you talking about? A family of three? Have you misunderstood me?
“I waited for you at the wedding venue for a whole day, but you didn’t show up. Are you angry because I let Isabel be the bridesmaid? Can’t I just not let her be the bridesmaid anymore?”
In the end, his voice trembled heavily.
It seems that I ran away from the wedding, and he was really angry.
I made him disappoint Isabel, didn’t I? As I flipped through the wedding scene that the emcee. handed me, I felt Asher was extremely disgusting.
“Asher, why do you think that I, who have loved you for ten years, would be generous enough to be” a bridesmaid for your bride at the wedding? Do I have a problem with running away from the wedding to protect myself from being called a homewrecker?”
“I didn’t cause a scene at your wedding with Isabel, so consider it my final token of gratitude for saving my life!”
My cold tone seemed to frustrate him, but more than that, it made him angry.
“Annalise, what are you doing? You are my bride, how could I possibly let you be a bridesmaid? Are you upset about the wedding dress or the lack of an engagement ring? I can make it up to you in double!”
“If you can’t let go of your hatred toward Isabel, I won’t force you to forgive her in the future. But everything I do is for your own good. How can one be happy and live a fulfilling life while holding onto hatred?”
His firm denial left me feeling disheartened.
“I saw it when you proposed to her.” “You begged her to stay with you and have a family of three sharing meals and seasons together.”
“You took your passport and went out to get the marriage certificate with her.”
“He gave me the chosen diamond ring and altered the wedding dress I desired.”
“In order to secure a better future, I was unwilling to leave my child behind, but I gave up my dreams for her child. Every single thing proves that you truly love her.”
“You gave me the card, but it was just to use the favor of saving my life to force me to cooperate with
you as a bridesmaid at the wedding. I don’t want to be a pawn in your play, so I quietly left, giving you a wedding that belongs only to you. Shouldn’t you be happy?”
“Why did you have to make me expose all of this, leaving me embarrassed?”
“Or do you think that I deserved to humiliate myself in front of the guests, admitting that I had been a mistress who stole love with a dagger for the past ten years, just to prove that you two are truly in love?”
Asher was so anxious that he spoke incoherently, “Annalise, it’s not like that, please come back, I’ll explain everything to you when you come home.”
What did he want to explain?
Let me explain to the guests I invited for him, that I should not have run away from the wedding.
Should I have let Isabel, wearing a bridal gown and a diamond ring, be pointed and gossiped at?
He fell in love with someone else, so he could have broken up with me. I am not the type of person. who clings on desperately.
If it weren’t for his high–profile confession at the airport back then, I would have kept my secret crush hidden and danced alone in the world of my piano.
