Cliapter 2
Before leaving the hospital, I proactively asked the doctor for that tiny embryo.
It was not yet fully formed, but one could barely make out the shape of a little baby.
1 held the glass bottle in my arms and couldn’t help but tear up.
I’m sorry, baby.
I have been waiting for you for so long, but I didn’t expect that we still don’t have fate. I took a deep breath, and since I had decided to leave, I could not bear this pain on my own.
Before leaving, I wanted to give Bentley one last gift.
Returning to the home where I had lived for six years, it was desolate.
Most likely, Bentley would have spent a pleasant evening with his devoted secretary.
I didn’t have much appetite for dinner, and as I walked along, there was a slight pain in my abdomen. I lay down next to the bed.
I fell asleep without knowing when. While I was sound asleep, I heard loud thunder outside.
The phone, which was casually placed on the bedside, rang several times. Irritated, I ignored it and turned over to continue sleeping.
“But unexpectedly, there was a sound of the door being pushed open from outside, and I was
startled, thinking that a thief had entered the house.
Just as I was about to get up, a drenched figure of Bentley appeared in front of me.
I rubbed my eyes and asked, “How did you come back?”
He saw me at home and breathed a sigh of relief. Taking off his damp coat, he ran over to hug me.
“Alicia, it was thundering outside, and I remembered that you were always afraid of thunder.”
“So I rushed back from the hotel overnight.”
His clothes were all soaked, and when they touched my face, I felt a chilling sensation, which made me very uncomfortable.
I pushed him away without leaving any trace.
“Don’t catch a cold, go take a shower first,” Bentley smiled at me, a rare occurrence, his voice gentle.
I will come and accompany you in a while.”
The sound of rushing water came from the bathroom, but I stared out of the window at the
Mightning and thunder, lost in thought.
Over the past three years, I have conducted countless experiments in the laboratory, and Bentley has also started coming home late and leaving early.
Even staying out all night.
At first, I thought his job was just getting busier and busler.
Until I found sexy lace underwear in my wardrobe at home.
the condom at home always mysteriously went missing a few.
Later on, his female secretary Emilee became more and more high–profile.
Every now and then, they would flaunt their love on the timeline or subtly provoke me.
I was tired now.
It is funny that Bentley is now remembering that I used to be afraid of thunder.
But little did I know that in countless agonizing days, I had already learned how to endure thunder and lightning alone.
Bentley didn’t know when he came out of the shower.
I slept again.
He lay beside me in a bathrobe, wanting to embrace me from behind, his breath hitting my shoulder and neck, gradually becoming scorching.
“Alicia…”
“Could you do it?”
I got up and pushed him away. After adjusting my emotions, my gaze slowly fell on the ambiguous traces under his collar.
“Didn’t Emilee let you eat enough?”
Bentley hesitated for a moment, a flicker of awkward anger crossing his face.
“Alicia, can you please stop being unreasonable?”
“We haven’t seen each other for how many days, and when we finally meet, do you have to be so tense and on edge?”
“I said it before, Emilee was just my secretary, responsible for taking care of my daily life and meals. That was her job!”
What was the point of you causing trouble like this every day?”
calmly watched him finish his outburst, making some space, and then continued to lie back.
“Go to sleep.”
Bentley, however, couldn’t sleep and had a gloomy expression on his face.
He coldly got up and picked up a pillow.
“I even thought about you being afraid of thunder and came to accompany you. It’s really kind–hearted of me, but you took advantage of it!”
I walked straight to the study and the door was firmly closed. This statement sounded funny to me.
During the last time I was scared of thunder, I huddled in the corner, with red eyes, messaging Bentley, asking him when he would come back.
