I stopped packing.

Two days later, I was at the airport, waiting
for my flight.
My phone vibrated. It was Rainey.

“Tell him to sign the divorce papers.
Otherwise, you’ll have a baby on the way with
another woman’s husband. ”
My phone started buzzing like crazy.
Rainey was screaming.

you’d be nothing.”
“I stole your boyfriend, I stole your house.
Doesn’t that bother you?”
I texted.

touch. I haven’t done great, but I also haven’t
destroyed everything either.”
I set her to “Do Not Disturb.”
Six months later, my lawyer called me back to
the States. The divorce was breaking through.
As soon as I landed, I met Liz. She had big
news.
“Jiang, big news. Those two are paralyzed.”
“Karma’s a bitch.”
Liz showed me the local news.
After I left, Rainey got back into gambling.

Without my connections, Mark’s company
started failing.
He had to beg people to give him business.

Then the loan sharks showed up. Mark found
out Rainey used their condo as collateral.

“The loan sharks just called!”
Mark grabbed Rainey’s throat.

Rainey said, trying to remind Mark she was
carrying his baby.
Mark calmed down. But then a second loan
shark called.
“Mr. Jiang, Ms. Rainey took out a nude loan
of three million. When are you going to pay?”
“You got a nude loan? Are you crazy?”
The pictures arrived on Mark’s phone.
Mark snapped. He beat up Rainey in the car.
Rainey fought back.
“I’m pregnant! Why can’t I spend your
money?”
“You’re so stingy. No wonder Jiang divorced
you!”
Rainey brought up my name, so Mark
grabbed her neck again.
“It’s your fault! I had a good wife! She was
pregnant!”
“You told me to dump the ice on her! You
bitch!”
Mark grabbed Rainey’s hair and slammed her
head against the window.
“Without me, you never would have made it!”
Rainey pushed him, and they went sprawling.
The car smashed into a truck.
The truck crushed their legs. Both were
paralyzed.
I shook my head after reading the news.

Now I just cared about one thing.
“I can get divorced now?”
The lawyer nodded.
“It’s a sure thing.”
Two weeks later, I won the divorce.
Liz met me at the courthouse.
“Congrats. New life, new you.”
I nodded and hugged her.
Yeah.
I was finally free to start my new life.
