- 14.
The elder paused. “What are you talking
about?
I would never do that.
Are you okay?”
He was still pretending.
I laughed. “You really went all out.
Killing people, pretending to be my
grandfather, telling me all those stories.
You think that makes your plan perfect?”
He smiled. “So, you know?”
“I do,” I said.
“You’re the fortune teller, not my grandfather.
The one who’s cursed isn’t me, it’s your
granddaughter.
Right?”
He didn’t deny it. “What else do you know?”
“You were there on my dad’s birthday.
You were there at my wedding.
Dad and Mark were looking at you when they
died.
く
Right?”
It all made sense.
“The one who caused the storm was your
granddaughter.
As a fortune teller, you knew she was
different.
You knew the only way to change her fate
was to switch her life with someone born on
the same day.
So you poisoned Dad and Mark when they
drank with you, making them kill themselves.
You used fortune telling to control my mom,
making her take the blame.
く
Then you made it look like she killed herself,
putting everything to rest.
You did all of this so you could control me
and change your granddaughter’s fate.”
He didn’t deny it.
He just stared at me. “Since you know
everything, why did you come here?”
I smiled. “You’re good, but you’re too
confident.”
“You know, even when the coroner and the
police told me Mom killed herself, I didn’t
believe it.
I knew she wouldn’t leave me and kill herself
for no reason
Г
You wanted to wipe out my entire family.
So I put some special incense on my parents‘
graves.
It would poison you if you came to find me.
It won’t do too much damage on its own.
But it would be deadly with the musk I’m
wearing.
You’ve been absorbing that since I walked in.”
My dad always taught me about poisons.
He said you needed to understand them to
avoid them.
く
Now I was using his knowledge to avenge
him.
The elder went pale.
He tried to get up, but he collapsed.
“You, you bitch! How dare you?”
He was furious.
“You were the one playing dirty,” I said.
“I just gave you a taste of your own
medicine.”
Chen and some other cops kicked down the
door.
く
I sent them a text and my location before I
came over.
The elder was shocked.
He tried to deny everything, but I gave Chen
the recording of our conversation.
“He confessed to everything.”
Chen looked relieved.
“I’m glad you didn’t give up.”
“Your parents and Mark are proud of you.”
“I just didn’t want them to die for nothing,” I
said.
Then I left.
The elder was arrested for murder.
And I lived my life the way my dad wanted me
- to.
I think my parents and Mark would have
wanted to see me move on.
