“It was supposed to be easy, but you got
screwed, it’s all your fault.”
“Your fault.”
“It’s all your fault.”
Gary started shaking his head, “No, I thought
you lied. It’s all your fault!”
I said, “You killed her.”
Chapter 10
“Ah!”
Gary screamed, collapsing to the floor, curling
up in a ball.
Aunt Karen started panicking.
“Oh no, he’s having a heart attack! Why now?
It’s been so long!”
<
She didn’t have that many friends because of
her mother.
They looked very troubled, unwilling to help.
My mom ran to him, crying.
“Everyone, help me. Please?”
Some relatives helped.
At the hospital, the doctor said, “He needs a
doctor. We’re not sure if we can save him.”
Then he was in the operating room.
Aunt Karen was crying, and my mom started
crying too.
I hung out with Dad, and then I saw my mom trying to give her her bank card.
“You can just forget that money. It’s OK, just
<
pay for Gary. It’s worth 100,000 with our
savings.”
“Don’t tell your dad.”
Just like last time, my mom wasn’t happy.
I grabbed it. “No. You’re too nice. She insulted
- us. We’re the good guys in this story.”
Aunt Karen’s eyes narrowed.
She knew what I was doing.
I felt bad, but I had to do what I could.
It was my fault, and I couldn’t let her win.
Finally, Aunt Karen fell to her knees. “I did
everything for Tiffany, and she was happy. Please, I’ll never talk back to you again. Please help me.”
<
She’d never begged, and I was impressed.
It was just an act.
She’d never loved my mom.
She’d never liked my mom.
She was an actress.
I waited until her face was swollen, and I said,
“Mom, that’s your money for the end of your
life. I don’t want you to go to your aunt.”
“In case you’re thinking about it, you can’t use
it anywhere in the world. I don’t want you to
give it away. But you might as well, the police
are outside!”
I said that so she would steal it.
“She grabbed my mom and screamed.
く
“It’s mine!”
I couldn’t stop her.
I turned to my mom, dissapointed.
She seemed embarrassed.
“I’m sorry, your aunt will pay it back. He’s your
uncle. Please! Don’t ask for it back, she needs
it more!”
I said, “I’m done, let me be.”
Chapter 11
This was last time.
My mom wasn’t happy, but she was done.
She’d helped Gary for long enough.
I went to the police station, talking to the cops.
<
I told them what Gary said.
“They’re desperate for money.”
The police nodded.
“Thanks. We’ll talk to them.”
Under pressure, parents can start acting
strangely.
The police would know to watch out.
The police came and talked to Karen, finding
information.
“We’re trying to save her. Don’t do anything,
just trust us.”
Karen screamed, “She’s my daughter! I won’t
listen!”
A few days later Farl was caught
<
A few days later, Earl was caught.
“We’re going to let her go, but she called the
cops. It’s all her fault!”
I didn’t know whether to trust them, but I knew
Tiffany was in trouble.
Chapter 12
Tiffany didn’t ask for help.
Aunt Karen didn’t ask for help.
The police asked and told them what to do.
They had to do what was right.
The police told me that she didn’t have to give
them money.
<
I didn’t tell the police about the card.
My mom was worried.
I said, “Are you worried about Tiffany? Don’t
worry, they don’t know where she is.”
My mom looked around the house, starting to
panic.
I didn’t say anything.
She couldn’t handle it.
That night, I heard her talking on the phone, to
Karen.
Karen hated everyone, but she didn’t hate my
mom.
My mom had never lied to her.
She would do anything for Gary and Karen.
Karen snuck out to the border.
She knew she was supposed to send money.
She knew her bank was being watched.
The police came to the house, and saw that
she’d taken the gold bars.
My card was missing too.
The police found her in a motel.
She wasn’t able to talk to her.
She was sitting in the bathroom.
“I’m sorry. It’s all my fault. That wasn’t a real
card! Now I can’t save her!”
Karen wasn’t doing well, and she had to go to
<
Tiffany had been gone for a few years.
There wasn’t a body to send home, but she had
her phone.
I went back to the house.
Mom screamed, and then passed out.
