I looked at her, handling the medicine like it
<
was precious.
I knew that I never would be good enough for
them.
I said, “Have you not noticed that your
asthma hasn’t gotten better after all this time
taking that medicine?”
She glared at me.
She had asthma from her parents, but Lily’s
brother was a doctor, a specialist in
pulmonary medicine.
Lily gave Karen a “special” medication to help
treat it.
She claimed it could cure asthma.
Г
It was completely free.
It had won over Chad’s parents.
They were always talking about how great the
Davis family was. They always complained
about my parents, saying that my family
didn’t have any real skills.
But Karen didn’t know that Lily had been
using her as a test subject from the start.
The medicine was free because it wasn’t
approved by the FDA.
A pharmacy owner I worked with told me
about it before I died the first time.
The medication didn’t have an FDA approval.
I wanted to tell her, but Chad stopped me.
That’s when I realized that Chad had known
all along, and he was all for it.
He told me that his mom had been sick for a
long time. What if this medicine helped her?
I told him that it was dangerous, that the
medication had serious side effects.
But he said he knew that and that every
medication had side effects.
He stopped me from telling his mom.
After I died, she died soon after due to the
side effects of the medicine.
Г
Chad didn’t blame Lily at all.
He even donated his mom’s body to Lily’s
brother for research.
I found the head of the pharmacy after I woke
up and got the test results for the medication.
Most importantly, I found the consent form
that Chad had signed.
Chad had volunteered his mom for the
experiment.
I laid everything out in front of her. Her face
turned pale.
She kept muttering, “My son would never do
that.”
<
I pulled out the old chat logs that I had been
wanting to show her for so long.
The chat logs were all about Chad offering to
let Lily’s brother experiment on his mom.
They both knew about the side effects, but
they still decided to hide them.
His mom had already experienced some side
effects when they were using the medication.
But they still wanted her to give it a shot.
She fainted in my hospital room and was
rushed to the ER.
Even then, his parents didn’t believe it. After
the doctor was done helping her, they pulled
out their medication and asked the doctor
L
what he thought.
She was crying so loudly.
The doctor reluctantly took the bottle.
When the medicine spilled in the doctor’s
hand, his face changed.
“This medication hasn’t been approved for
sale for years! Where did you get this?”
“This medication has extreme side effects on
the heart. Using it for a long time can
damage your heart and blood vessels!”
After getting confirmation from the doctor,
his mom visibly weakened.
Just then, Lily called her. She hung up a few
times, but Lily kept calling.
She finally answered.
Lily went straight to the point. “Did she sign
it, Aunt Karen?”
“You have to make her sign it so Chad will be
okay.”
“I can get you the special medication I get
from my brother to help you!”
Chad’s mom started cursing.
The words were worse than what she had
said to me.
She only cared about herself.
After hanging up, she scheduled a full body
exam. As I was leaving, she gave Chad’s dad
a look.
Chad’s dad grabbed me.
“You’re a good child. You can’t just leave
your mom alone.”
He didn’t even blush when he said that. He
sounded like it was my duty.
I shook his hand off. “After today, I won’t be
your daughter–in–law anymore.”
He looked surprised.
He must have thought I was joking.
I pulled out the divorce papers Chad had me
^
sign and put them on the table.
Chad was determined to divorce me. After
signing the papers, he was ready to take me
to the court to get it done.
Today was the last day of the waiting period.
Tomorrow, my request would go through.
Why would I stay and take care of them?
I looked at them and smiled. “Don’t you like
Lily? You spent all that money to bail her out
and hire her a lawyer. You should just have
her take care of you.”
I could hear them yelling as I left the room.
“I don’t know why we ever agreed to get her
back. She won’t even take care of me. We
<
shouldn’t have given her a wedding gift to
begin with.”
“Yeah, I knew she wasn’t a good woman. She didn’t even give us any kids.”
Kids?
I looked at my stomach.
It was good I didn’t have any kids. I was so
lucky.
I was notified that I could pick up Chad the
next morning.
As I waited with the police, Chad came out
and gave me a disgusted look.
“So you decided to show up?”
L
“Let me tell you something: I’ll never forgive
you! If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have had
to go through all that!”
I found his anger funny.
I said, “I’m picking you up so we can get a
divorce. It’s not like everything is fine. I want
them to sentence you according to the law.”
He looked surprised when he heard the word
“divorce.”
