“What do you mean his baby! I would not be
surprised if you just got played!”
Ashley, being the fake friend that she always
was, was getting agitated.
She rolled her eyes.
But then she saw me and her eyes widened.
“Jessica! You put us in here and you still
have the nerve to show your face!”
Brittany whirled around, her expression a mix
of anger and desperation.
<<
‘Jessica, you called the cops on us! You’re
く
“I already called your husband. He’s on his
way. See how he deals with you!”
I leaned against the wall, arms crossed, and
raised an eyebrow.
“Oh really? It’s been so long since I last saw
my husband. If you can bring him here, I will
thank you.”
“Hmph!”
Brittany’s face twisted, and she went back to
her phone, furiously dialing.
About an hour later, the sound of a car pulling
up echoed through the station.
Brittany perked up, her eyes gleaming.
L
“Tom’s here!”
She watched as a man jumped out of the car
and ran towards her, grabbing Brittany and
pulling her close.
“Honey, are you okay? Is the baby alright?”
Brittany wrapped her arms around the man
and leaned her head on his chest.
“Honey! That crazy old woman attacked us!
Our little baby got scared and started crying!
You have to teach her a lesson!”
The man whipped his head around to look at
- me.
“What did you do to my- too…?”
Chapter Two
I blinked at the guy’s face, registering shock.
Wait a sec… that’s not “Tom“.
That’s Mike, Tom’s old chauffeur! What the
heck?
He used to drive Tom everywhere before he
died.
Since my in–laws were sentimental, they hadn’t fired Mike after Tom passed. They let him drive them around when they needed it.
Which was, like, never.
So, Mike was basically getting paid to do nothing.
<
I never imagined he’d use that free time to
impersonate my dead husband.
No wonder he had a picture of the CEO’s
office! He probably took it years ago when
Tom was still alive!
My jaw dropped as Brittany clearly
misinterpreted my shock, mistaking it for fear.
She looped her arm through Mike’s, all smug.
“Honey, the old bag knows! She knows about
us, she knows about the baby! You have to
divorce her, like, yesterday!”
“(Insert Company Name Here) is your
company! It has to go to our son! We can’t let
some outsider take over!”
“And the purse on Jessica’s shoulder, it
should be on my shoulder! Give it back!”
I watched this whole mess unfold like it was a
train wreck, my shock morphing into pure
amusement.
“A purse you bought me? Wow, Mike, you’ve
been holding out on me!” I taunted.
Mike visibly winced.
With Brittany hanging all over him, he had no
room for getting caught.
He did his best to play along, his face beet
red.
“It’s… it’s just an old bag, baby. We’ll get you
a new one, I promise!
<
“Let’s just go and get out of here.‘
وو
He tried to drag Brittany away.
Brittany wasn’t having it.
“But honey, you haven’t chewed her out yet.
She almost got me arrested!”
I could barely contain my laughter as this
ridiculous scene played out.
That night, back in my apartment, I called the
caretaker of my in–law’s house and asked
about Mike.
Turns out, my in–laws were in Europe, on
some fancy vacation.
They hadn’t needed Mike for the last two
stunt, and driving the Benz around town.
pretending to be loaded.
Not long after I hung up, a random number
popped up on my phone.
I answered, and Mike’s voice came through,
practically sobbing.
