I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
I had been through the night.
“Easton, you haven’t given me a minute to
rest.”
“Now you’re asking me?”
He smiled. “So, you want to?”
I nodded.
He kissed me.
He pulled me up. “Riley Carter, we’re going
somewhere.”
“Where?”
“You’ll see.”
23
I shook my head. “I can’t. I’m tired.”
“No. Now!”
“I’ll carry you.
دو
He started dressing me.
“Easton… I’m dirty…”
“Just throw away the clothes and buy new
ones when we get back.”
We walked out the door in the early morning
light.
Easton carried me to the car.
As he drove, he checked my purse.
He told me.
“Riley, turn on your phone and tell your
parents that the wedding is off.”
“Right.”
He had turned me into a fool.
I ignored Mason’s calls and texted my family.
Then, we arrived at our destination.
The sign read.
Marriage registration.
“The registry office?”
He was crazy!
He smiled.
He turned off the car and carried me out.
We sat on the bench.
The office wasn’t even open yet!
He wrapped his arm around me and grabbed
my hands.
“Riley Carter, we’ve been apart for seven
years.”
“Seven years is too long.”
“I can’t wait any longer. Let’s get married.”
“Okay?”
I wanted to. He had waited seven years, and I
had never let him go.
But, his mother.
Me and Easton? He was rich.
It couldn’t be that easy.
“Your family…”
“Riley!” He cut me off.
“If two people love each other and want to be
together, they don’t need anyone’s
permission.”
“I’ll apologize to your parents, and I’ll take any
punishment until they agree to let me marry
you.”
<
I hid my face in his chest.
“I won’t run. I’ll do whatever you want.”
Chapter 2
By the time the staff at the courthouse
showed up, there were already a few other
couples lined up behind us.
When Easton smoothly pulled out my ID from
my purse, I remembered him rummaging
through it before we left.
He’d been checking to make sure I had my
documents.
Of course, we were the first couple to get
married that day.
Both of us had huge bags under our eyes, but
in our wedding photo, we were grinning like
idiots.
We wanted to get married, super wanted to.
I was officially married to my first love.
He scooped me up in his arms, kissing my
cheek.
As we walked out, he whispered in my ear, his
voice thick with emotion.
“Wife!”
I covered my face, but I couldn’t hide my
smile.
“Husband!”
It was so nice to have my phone off.
On the way back to the house, he took me to
a store and bought us a couple of outfits.
As soon as we got inside, he stripped off my
clothes, tossing them straight into the trash.
Then, he dragged me into the shower.
Afterwards, I put on my new pajamas, leaning
back on the couch.
I watched him make me a late breakfast in
the kitchen.
Shrimp and eggs. One of my favorite foods
from when we were together before.
He remembered.
He carried it over, spoon–feeding me.
There were still things to deal with.
After washing up and eating, we were both
feeling a lot better.
Easton turned on his phone.
It immediately started blowing up.
He answered.
The first call was from a mutual friend.
“Dude! You finally turned it on! Where are
you? Are you really with Riley Carter?”
“Mason is losing his freaking mind. He’s been
driving around all night looking for you. He’s
searched all your places in the city!”
“Today’s his wedding! You and the bride are
MIA! All the guests are there, and none of her
side of the family has arrived.”
