Thanks to Caleb, I barely saw Liam.
I gave him a raise and a 2% commission on
top of his year–end bonus.
Caleb nodded and gave me a cup of hot
lemon water, with a heating pad for my
stomach.
I facepalmed myself. I finally knew why I’d
been so irritated lately.
My period was coming.
I plopped down on the couch, and Caleb laid
out my meal in front of me.
“Hey, this isn’t what I usually have!”

Caleb handed me a fork and spoon. “This is
chicken soup I made. Try to stay off takeout
for a few days.”

I sighed, homemade food was hard to reject.
But I was trying to diet!
Caleb had already filled a bowl and passed it
to me.
“I skimmed the fat. It won’t make you gain
weight.”
“Whoever marries you is going to be the
luckiest person on the planet,” I said.
Caleb was watching me eat, a strange look
flashed on his face
He opened his mouth, but he was interrupted.
“Mommy! Mommy!”
“Jane! Me and your son came to see you!”
The kid and Chet ran up to me, but Caleb
held them back.
“Mommy, can we go to the amusement
park?” The kid grabbed my leg.
I tried to smile as I was clutching my
stomach.
“Maybe another day. Mommy’s not feeling
well.”
The kid tilted his head and said, “You’re going

I glared at Chet, who was pretending to be
invisible in the corner.
Caleb grabbed the kid and dragged him
outside.
“Uncle Caleb has some summer homework
for you.”
When he came back, I had just yelled at Chet.
Caleb saw Chet reaching for my soup, and
swooped in.

glared at him.
Caleb was expressionless.
“This soup will make your tail shrink.”
