Even though we were a ways off, you could
see the shock on the paramedics‘ faces.
Jake’s look of panic and pain? Totally visible.
This was a goldmine for the reporters.
They stopped hiding and charged the house,
cameras blazing, snapping pictures of Jake.
Even Sarah ran over, eager to get a closer
look.
Г
Only me? I was frozen in place.
I’d imagined a million scenarios dealing with
Jake’s betrayal, and thought I was prepared.
But this? It was way worse than anything I’d
considered.
Looking back, it all clicked.
No wonder Jake had never looked at another
woman.
No wonder he had no secrets on his phone.
No wonder he loved his dog so damn much.
No wonder, last time, he was so freaked out
when I confronted him about the lube.
<
It all made sense now, his careful act, his
confidence, the panic.
All for this.
I felt like I’d been struck by lightning, my legs
shaky.
A wave of nausea hit me, and I almost threw
- up.
Tears started streaming down my face.
Sarah, noticing my distress, put a hand on my
shoulder, concerned but confused.
“Anna, you don’t have to cry about this.”
I stared at her, disbelieving. “What do you
く
mean, I don’t have to?”
“This is beyond messed up, don’t you think?”
Sarah shrugged. “It’s not that bad!”
“Lots of people are into that, me included.”
I was floored.
“You’re telling me… you’ve done this?”
Sarah nodded. “Yeah, of course.”
“Remember when I had Buster?”
She then looked at Jake.
“But not as crazy as your man here.”
く
“My dog got sick, I took him to the vet
myself.”
“His dog just had diarrhea and he called an
ambulance.”
“Look at him so worried, that’s real love.”
