Chapter 11
Chapter 11
POV Jake
As I saw Liberty storm off I couldn’t help the satisfaction that filled me, As Lisa pushed her body against me I shuddered in disgust and pushed her away, “Lisa go home!“, I snapped.
Her hurt was evident on her face but I didn’t care, there was nothing special about this girl that stood besides me. “Alpha, a word!“.Jess‘ words sounded in my ear as my face shot up.
“The Alpha is busy,” Lisa hissed at Jess.
I frowned at her, who did this girl think she was ? being disrespectful to my sister.
With one swift action I pushed her away,“Go Home!,” I shouted at her.
I saw her humiliation flash across her face as she hit the floor, but I turned to Jess and left her sitting there rejected in the cold.
As Jess and I walked away Jess lent in to me and whispered, “what is wrong with you?“, she asked.
I furrowed my brows confused with what she asked, “What do you mean??“, I questioned.
As we walked into the packhouse and the door shut she turned to me, “I rejected my mate Jake, you don’t need to reject yours!“, she blurted out.
The anxiety she clearly felt emanated over her body, “Lisa isn’t my mate“, I snapped.
She smiled and shook her head, “no, you fool, not Lisa but Liberty“.
Was she serious? Was she mad there was no way that Liberty was my mate, “No, Liberty is not my mate. I would know if she was!“, I said.
I couldn’t deny the pull I felt towards her, I could sense her pull to me even though everytime she looked at me it was as if her stares went straight through me, her disgust for me and the name I was associated with, there was no way she was my mate.
“You are denying it, everyone can feel it Jake!,“Jess said.
I shook my head, “Even if it was true, I would reject Jess. She isn’t mine, she is destined for greater things that only you and I could imagine,” I said.
“You would reject her and sacrifice your happiness for what Jake?,” Jess snapped.
“You have no idea what you are talking about, Liberty is NOT my mate!“, I said with hostility and venom.
I had enough of this conversation, I wanted out. I just wanted to leave Jess with her thoughts but she wouldn’t stop. She kept pushing me and pushing me, “Leave me alone Jess!,” I said, pushing her away from me.
“You know, you never knew what was right in front of your eyes,” she snapped.
I could only imagine the thoughts that ran through her head, “Fixing me won’t change what you did“, I hissed.
As soon as I said it I felt the pang of guilt hit me, I reached for her but she recoiled from me, “That isn’t fair“, she said.
Her pain etched in her voice, the shake of her body visible but her face stayed calm as if she rejected her feelings.
“I was saving his life,” she whimpered.
I knew she didn’t need me to answer, it was a scene that replayed in her nightmares daily. I stormed off towards my office trying to distance myself, the thoughts swirled my mind and the noise had become too much.
I could feel my wolf push forward but I held him back worried that his anger had continued to grow out of my control.
“Go to bed Jess, I will find Liberty and make sure she is safe,” I said through gritted teeth.
“Milo is watching them from afar“, she mumbled. I nodded in acknowledgement.
“I saw her today,” I said, wanting to change the subject.
Jess gasped, “Did you tell her she was here?“, she said.
I couldn’t help but nod, I wasn’t expecting it when she hit me, I was stunned.
My canines grew and the growl erupted that stunned her and myself, “What the hell Jake“, she screamed.
I shook her off and pulled away, “What did you want me to do??“I hissed at
her.
“You know she doesn’t mean well for our pack, she won’t stay back now! You know that Right?“, she said.
Maybe it was her wolf that came to the surface, the fight for this girl was palpable in her body. “She won’t harm her!“, I snapped.
Jess biting her nails, her eyes grew wide and she said shakily, “You don’t know that!“.
“Of course I do!“, I said, I always protected our pack. Why didn’t Jess know that, why must she doubt me?. she was never a stupid girl but since rejecting Milo it was like she tried to find something to fill the gap in her heart. She made me her project for a while and then she gave up but I felt her stir again when Liberty was bought here. “You don’t know anything!“, she cried.
She rested on the floor beside me, as if defeated by the world. I could feel her sadness ripple through me, but I couldn’t comfort her. I didn’t know how to do it, I was programmed to wreck and break, be cold and distant, my father had taught me everything of war and hate and I had to learn love and kindness from my sister. Jess resembled our mother, warm and full of love, and always chose the right path for our pack. She was blinded by Liberty though, her madness of her being my mate had blinded her from why we actually took her in.
“Jess, Liberty wasn’t destined to stay, she would bring peace to our pack by eventually giving her back to Jenkins☐☐. YOU KNOW THIS!,” I said.
“You are the blind one, not myself! You can’t see it, she will be our Luna and you can’t see that! You want to give her back to Jenkins! That will break you, you will see even if you can’t see it right now!, that witch will only speed up the process“, Jess hissed through gritted teeth.
Her pain was unbearable, “That witch won’t!“. “HOW DO YOU KNOW!“, she screamed back at me.
“BECAUSE SHE IS HER MOTHER!!!!!“, I yelled back.
Jess gasp was audible, sh*t I didn’t mean to tell her, I just wanted her to shut up.
There was no mate for someone that killed their father, she was wrong, she had no idea that when I killed our father it was a new journey for me. It was to be a protector for my mateless sister and our pack.
I was a lone wolf, even if Zeus paced my mind itching to get out, to find her to watch her, I told him though she isn’t ours. “What do you mean, she is her mother, her mother died!“, she stuttered.
I knelt beside her and swept the hair from her face with my hand, “Jess, her mother didn’t die, our father captured her and made her reject her mate and then trapped her within our pack. He threatened her with the life of her daughter and her mate.
She chose them to protect them“, I said as a whisper just in case someone overheard me.
Jess shook her head, ” Her father knew?“, she said, trying to contain her
shock.
I nodded.
“Poor Liberty“, she said as the tears fell.
“Look, we just need to hold on for a while, we need to just follow the plan okay, then you won’t need to think of Liberty again“, I said.
Even though the words came easy, the feeling behind them sliced through me and made me shudder.
Just as if the air around us became so charged I heard the door to the packhouse open and I looked up. In walked Liberty, smiling, radiant and glowing as if a beacon of everything I am not, lit up the room.
I couldn’t help but stare at her, I could sense her disgust and rejection surrounding me. It flickered on her face as she glanced between Jess and I.
Sh’t Jess, she was crying and sat on the floor and Liberty thought I hurt her! f**k bow brutal did she think I was!
Concern flooded her, “Jess are you okay?“, she asked.
I could tell she was wary of me and I looked at Jess who wiped her face and strangled a smile from her already red puffy face, anger built inside me, how could Liberty think
I could only helplessly watch as he dragged Liberty’s screaming body up the stairs, smashing her into the wall. Each time her body slammed Zeus‘ grimace as he felt her pain
too.
“Stop It Zeus“, I called out but he didn’t listen as he charged to the cell of a room at the end of the corridor.
“Monster“, Liberty cried out. She was battered and bruised, but no tears fell for the pain she felt.
I could only watch helplessly as Zeus threw her in the room that was her prison and leant into her body as she fell back into the mattress. He sniffed her scent deeply, letting the smell calm him but as he pulled away he saw the shock on her face, the bile that clearly sat in her throat as she swallowed it back. The disgust was there and I felt bile myself at the thought of how much she hated me. What was I even doing?
Why did I care if she called me a beast or a monster, Jess can’t be right, she can’t be my mate, I won’t let it be.
With that I pushed her back and walked out the room slamming the door behind me, locking it slumping at the realisation of what I had just done. The heavy burden sinking in my chest, this girl had to go before I hurt her.
