POV Liberty
“What are you doing?“I said to carissa.
“You might ignore him, but let us be real for a moment. There are 10 Jenkins packs here, I can’t fight them all!“, Carissa said as she growled at Hawkins.
“He is a beast Carissa, he won’t come just because I called,” I said to my wolf.
“We will see, you saw those images, you felt the same pain as I did, you may not like it but there is a connection there! we can not deny this you will be 18 soon, you must see“, Carissa spoke to me.
Shock filled me as my wolf spoke, I could feel my legs tremble, could she be right? The pain I felt was more for a mate than an Alpha. I tried to shake the feeling but I just couldn’t. I wouldn’t know for sure until midnight.
“He will reject us Carissa,” I told her, watching Hawkins circle me.
She whimpered in my mind the thought of losing Zeus consumed her and
Narrowing her eyes she spoke,” I saw what you did Hawkins!,“.
I couldn’t help being shocked by the emotions that ran through her, there I was as a spectator watching her magnificence stand her ground. I hated Jake but when those images filled my mind of their attack on him without warning the grief I felt overwhelmed me. I couldn’t deny that it caught me off guard but the energy and grief I feel inside consumes me, I can feel the pull from the pack, the earth between my paws as if it was giving me an added surge inside.
“Now, Wolf, you need to settle, you can’t take us all!“Hawkins spat as he stepped forward,
“I didn’t mean to hurt your Luna, If i could change it i would,” Carissa spoke softly.
Hawkins spat on the ground, “Well you can’t wolf, you must pay for your actions!” He hissed as he licked his lips.
“Lucky for you Alpha Jenkins wants you alive, so don’t make it hard for yourself,” he hissed.
“Is Alpha Jake okay?“Carissa asked again and in her mind she cried for Zeus.
That’s when I felt Carissa’s fur tingle all around me, she was angry, she was hurt and she wanted out, I had never seen her like this and as her emotions of hate and disdain grew I saw the darkness sweep over us as the clouds grew and gathered around us. “Carissa, are you okay?“, I whispered.
“Liberty, can you feel it?“, she whispered.
As the clouds grew darker I felt Carissa pull the energy from the very ground she stood on, I had no control and as I could only marvel at what she was doing I couldn’t help being slammed with the realisation that she was right. The emotions she felt were of love, her wolf and his. “Carissa,” I called to her.
I wanted to tell I could feel it, but I didn’t want to and the very thought that my mate was the Alpha from the Drakos pack made bile rise in my throat, the very pack that killed my mother. It had felt like a sick joke but I couldn’t deny the feelings that stirred within.
She didn’t reply. All I could do was watch and feel what she felt and I had no control, what would be would definitely be at her hands and not mine.
“Let Jesse go, she has nothing to do with this!“Carissa said, firming her stance between Jess and the Jenkins pack.
“No Liberty“, Jess cried.
“Our Luna is still recovering and you expected to just give us orders?Your Alpha made a deal so there is no need to call for him, he will not come. We are only here because of him! Hawkins said, curling his lips into a smug smile.
Jess spoke, “That isn’t true!“.
Shock filled me, even though I could feel Carissa’s confidence and she didn’t even flinch: I still couldn’t help feeling betrayed by Alpha.
Hawkins cackled at her words, “Really, you think so?“.
“Our Alpha would not betray our Luna“, She cried.
Jess‘ words pulled me from my thoughts, she must stop this nonsense, even if we were mates I would still need to reject him. He betrayed me for one, gave me up as if I was nothing. He was no better than Harris!
“Jess, I am not your Luna!“I cried through the mindlink.
“You may not see it, but the moon will come and you will feel it, Lib only a Luna can command an alpha!“, she cried.
“That wasn’t me Jess, that was Carissa!“, I argued back.
I could see that she didn’t register my words but then she said, “You and your wolf are one, Liberty please see that the emotions Carissa feels you are feeling them,” she urged through the link.
“Your Alpha has no Luna, especially this weak wolf,” Hawkins hissed.
“It’s true, Your Alpha sent for us“, cried out another wolf within the Jenkins pack.
I could hear them all laugh.
“Do not believe them,” Jess urged, I could sense she wasn’t confident in the words she spoke.
I couldn’t help feeling the pang of hurt that made my fragile heart feel heavy shattering around me. I knew the words they spoke were true. I could sense it but I saw him hurt, I saw him fighting in my mind, in the images that flooded me not moments ago. I had to rely on him, on his regret I had to ask for him. I swallowed the bile that sat in my throat and with my mind overwhelmed with too many thoughts I had to use all my strength to let Carissa call for him once more
“Zeus, There are 10 wolves here to kill me without you I won’t live!“, Carissa called through the mindlink.
Our pack was on their way and I could feel the shaking within Carissa,
I then felt what she felt as Shock coarse through me, why did it hurt so much to know Jake gave me away, I shouldn’t expect anything different from a Drakos. As if Carissa whimpered at the pain she felt it too that coursed through our veins at that moment the heavens opened and the rain began to fall and mimic what she felt inside. She surely didn’t do that? I wondered.
“Where is he?“, Carissa demanded.
As she leapt forward on to Hawkins back sinking her canines in him, he tossed and swung his head around trying to bite whatever part of carissa he could find. He swung her off his back and sent her crashing into the ground with a thud as he towered over her and pinned her down.
She did not care though and I could feel her pain but not from the attack Hawkins had launched but from the words he spoke laid heavy inside her. He wasn’t our mate, she shouldn’t feel betrayed like this. I tried to speak with her but she attacked Hawkins laying every painful feeling into every blow she made, yet if he was hurt he didn’t show it. The thunder clapped around us and the lighting struck the trees, with each attack Carissa made I could feel her energy charging, I could feel every part of what she felt flooding through me, hitting me harder and harder and I knew then that it would consume me, that what she felt was because she wholeheartedly believed Zeus was hers. Distracted by the Lightning and the intensity of the sudden change in the fierce weather it had distracted Hawkins enough he lost his grip enough for Carissa to push him with force off of her. Our pack came and launched their attack on the Jenkins wolves that stood in awe of Carissa and Hawkins wolf as if there was something electrifying while they fought. Then Hawkins grabbed Carrissa and shoved her to the ground and ripped at her skin with his claws until he could smell her blood.
That’s when I heard in my mind running, as if the distance between us was too much and that’s when I heard him,
“I am here!“Zeus growled.
The entire pack watched as Alpha’s mighty wolf Zeus came into view at an unstoppable speed he launched himself at Hawkins who now had Carissa pinned to the ground. His teeth wrapped around her neck sinking deeper, I watched on as if I was not part of this, I couldn’t help finding the shock and horror that washed over Hawkins face amusing. I felt an uneasy calm upon seeing Zeus as if the fear and dread had flooded away at the sight of him and that’s when I realised he was Carissa’s mate, I had seen this in the eyes of others when their mates were hurt. “Oh Carissa, this can not be,” I whispered
Carissa whimpered and I felt the surge of pain from the rips and bites at our skin.
As Zeus fought Hawkins and the Jenkins pack ran away, a loud bang rang out Without warning my legs trembled and I shifted back to human form. Jess ran to me shifting on her way and as she gotta me “Liberty“, she cried catching me as my legs gave way beneath me, I heard cries all around and then before the darkness swept over me I saw a figure in the trees, It can’t be I must be dying i tried to call out.
