Chapter 21 Chapter 21 Pov Jake
The anger that this woman had run away had pulsated through me. I took off in the direction that the woman pointed but I couldn’t see Carissa anywhere. I tried to call for her but she had blocked me out. I was seething. I couldn’t shake the knots that formed in my stomach. The gaping hole that formed inside me was excruciating.
I had to concede that I couldn’t sense her, it dawned on me that she had learnt to mask herself, she had learnt to conceal where she had gone and she didn’t want me to find her.
I heard Zeus whimper, he pushed forward but I pulled it back, “she is gone!“, I told him
He too could sense that she didn’t want to be found, I hadn’t realised Milo had followed me, he watched my unravelling feelings being exposed to the world, He touched my shoulder and I spun around so fast not taking in who was there and lashed out.
My fist a direct hit to Milo’s face as he staggered back,” JESUS!“, he swore as he rubbed his face.
“Anyone tell you not to creep up on people“, I scolded.
It took all my strength to mask the chills that blew through me.
“Take it you didn’t find her“, he said rubbing his jaw some more.
I shook my head and swallowed the pain in my throat, “She clearly doesn’t want to be found“, I snapped.
Milo’s eyes widened as he watched me walk towards the woman’s house again, “You not going to look for her?“, he questioned.
“Let her go!, It saves me rejecting her anyway“, I said with hostility.
I stormed off through the forest with darkness settled over me, I couldn’t shake that she was gone. I could hear Zeus whimper in my mind. He was pushing me to keep looking but I had enough, she had consumed so much of my time already, “Let her go“, I encouraged Zeus.
As I walked back to the cabin the woman looked at me with hopeful eyes but I just shaked my head, “she’s gone“, I muttered.
She looked back at the forest and then to me, “Really that is it! You aren’t going to search for her????“, she protested.
I snarled at her,” YOU DID THIS!“I snapped.
She looked at me undisturbed by my anger that now was evident on my face and she coldly said, “I DId not know your fate would be entwined with my daughters. You can’t walk away from her, she needs you!“, she said.
I walked right past her, “Watch me!, I am done with her, you and this☐☐☐☐ isn’t my problem anymore!“, I said as I pulled the Jenkins man from the ground. He was barely breathing but still alive. A part of me was relieved so I could interrogate him later, I turned and took one more look at the forest and sighed.
“She is your mate, you need to protect her,” the woman pleaded.
She ran down her steps towards me but Milo stopped her, “Remember the Alpha allows you to live here, do not overstep your rank old witch“, he hissed.
I could see on his face he was worried about me but he contained it well and was masking it with his rank of Beta as he should have.
The woman narrowed her eyes at me and gave me a deathly look but said nothing, with that I slung the man on my shoulder and walked off towards the pack house. “That Bloody woman, I shouldn’t even care!“I cursed to Zeus.
I could sense that he wasn’t ready to let her go quite yet and I could only hope that he would follow my suit. “Let’s go,” Milo said, walking beside me.
I stopped for a moment and took in a sharp breath, “Maybe you could ask the border patrols to let us know if she passes through“, I said, shooting Milo a look that dared
him to question me.
“Already done boss,” he said with an awkward smile.

POV Liberty
I didn’t know where to go, I watched Carissa run, feeling each painful whimper as she ran from her mate and I knew that what I had asked from her was a lot. I just needed to breathe without them all, I needed space to take in everything, something I haven’t ever had.
“He will follow,” I warned Carissa.
“He won’t, I have blocked him from us,” she said reassuring me.
I stumped inside knowing that she was just trying to be a good wolf.
She ran and ran and then suddenly stopped, “Where are you?“, she called out to the shadows.
I was pulled from my thoughts as she spoke, “Who is there?“, I asked.
A low growl came from within as a shadow stepped from the trees,
“It’s just me“, Jess said, raising her hands.
Carissa pushed me forward to take control as she shifted, “Jess” I cried as I ran into her arms.
We embraced as the sobs shuddered through my body and we knelt down to the ground.
She stroked my hair, “It’s okay Lib I got you,” she said soothingly.
She didn’t push me to speak, she just stroked my hair and sat with me in an embrace until the tears stopped falling.
She pulled back from me and looked at my puffy eyes red raw from the tears and she smiled sympathetically, “Lib what is wrong?,” she soothed.
Neither of us moved and as I tried to find the right words I couldn’t help feeling reserved from her suddenly wondering why she was here, “Why are you here Jess?,” I asked. She frowned and then stood up, walking to the nearest tree and found a bag that the border patrols had hidden. She unzipped the bag and checked the contents and then threw it at me, “Here, put this on“, she said.
I slung the hoody over my head and the joggers on and welcomed the warmth that the clothes brought me.
“I came to see the old lady,” she said finally as she sat back down on the ground.
I frowned and as realisation hit me I couldn’t help but shake my head and mutter, “Was I the only one that didn’t know my mother was still alive?.” It wasn’t a question I actually thought she would answer but I couldn’t help feeling the pang of betrayal come from her.”
I knew Jess in this pack better than I had known anyone. She had only ever shown me kindness. It would be wrong of me to be cold with her.
“Jake told me, the night he threw you back in that disgusting room,” she said, not being able to make eye contact.
“I was going to see why you are like you are?“, she asked.
“Me?I am not like anything“, I protested.
“Really?“, she said, raising an eyebrow.
“So you can’t pull from the earth and sky?, you can’t command your Alpha at will and you don’t separate yourself from your wolf?,” she questioned.
She must have not wanted the answers as she suddenly stood and held her hand out, “Come on“, she said.
I took her hand and followed silently down the path that opened to a clearing where the moon shone so full and bright. “Happy Birthday Lib“, she beamed.
I had nothing to smile about, I could feel the energy from the moon and it shone bright and beautifully in the sky. I stared at it for a long time before I looked back at Jess, “I need to hide“, I said.
She frowned, “From what?,” she asked.
“Your brother“, I answered honestly.
I saw the sadness flood through her, she must have been thinking about her own make she rejected and the sadness flowed freely through her as she let Milo fill her thoughts.
“Do you trust me Lib?“, she asked.
“No,” I answered honestly
Liberty’s Secrets
I saw the stunned hurt look flicker in her eyes.
“Don’t take it personally, I don’t trust anyone at the moment but I think you are more likely to help me,” I said.
She nodded contemplating her answers.
“Did you reject him?,” she said, barely audible.
“No“, I said as the uneasiness settled within me.
“The Jenkins pack want to capture me, the ‘powers‘ I hold they want to harvest from me. Have an indestructible army. I need to stay within this pack to have full protection but I can not argue with your brother any longer,” I said.
We both stared at the moon not looking at one another just talking about
“Okay, I will help you“, she said.
I nodded at her words.
I knew that she hurt by helping me but she agreed despite how she felt.
my
need for escape.
“We need to take you somewhere first. My brother owns all the apartments in the pack but my nanna had a house and it is still there in the centre of the pack sitting empty. No better place to hide to be honest. I am sure my brother has asked the border patrol to alert him of your passing through,” she said.
I doubted it very much, even though he couldn’t sense me. I had watched him as he walked away, giving up on finding me, I watched as he walked from my mothers knowing that he had enough of me. Though I did not feed this information to Jess I just nodded and smiled at her.
“Won’t your scent give you away though?“, she wondered.
I shook my head, “No, Carissa will mask my scent when he is near,” I said.
“You won’t be able to shift in the town, he will definitely know in an instant“, she said.
I nodded in agreement.
“Well then, some contacts and a haircut and you will be unrecognisable,” She said with a laugh.
“I might be able to help,” Carissa spoke inside.
I frowned and looked at Jess, “I think Carissa has a plan,” I said shrugging my should
I took a step back from Jess and that’s when I felt the tingle sensation rush through me as Carissa pulled from the earth and sky, it felt as if the moon had drawn closer.I could feel sparks through my nerves and as I looked at Jess I saw her eyes grew wide and her mouth drop open as she gasped as I felt the wind blow right through me lifting me gently and setting me back down to the ground I heard Jess, “Lib!” cry out.
I smiled and shrugged at her “I guess she couldn’t help“, I muttered. Jess frowned as she ran to me grabbing, touching my face, “Lib you look completely different“, she said, exploring my face for me.
I didn’t feel any difference as I felt my own face and confusion must have been clear to see as she reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone, she stood back and took a photo, “here look,” she said showing me the picture.
“Did it hurt?“, She asked
My brown eyes were now green and my dark hair was a shimmering blonde. I gasped and touched my face, shaking my head in response to Jess‘ question “how did you?,” I asked Carissa.
“I don’t know, I just knew I could so I did,” she said indifferently,
“Well Jake will definitely not recognise you now!, neither will the Jenkins pack,” Jess squealed with delight.
I couldn’t help but share her exhilaration at my transformation
“Liberty this may actually work,” she said in disbelief.
I smiled finally feeling free from my problems from the past and starting anew and still under the protection from the pack.
“You’ll need to change your name“, she said.
Grabbing my arm we started walking towards the pack village, I couldn’t help the nerves that twisted eating away at my insides at the thought that someone might recognise me and tell the Alpha.
Jess looped her arm in mine,“Are you okay? You have been quiet for a long time“, She asked.
I wasn’t aware that I had been so consumed in my thoughts that long but I just smiled at her and whispered,” What if someone finds out?“.
She shook her head, “If I hadn’t seen you transform with my own eyes I wouldn’t have known it was you“, she said.
As we made it to the village jess pulled out her phone and rang milo, “Hi, I am staying at my nana’s house tonight☐☐☐☐☐☐ “No, I met a friend☐☐☐☐..“, She answered.
“It’s ‘her‘ actually☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐“, she said, tutting and rolling her eyes, not that Milo would have seen that. I couldn’t help but smile. “Her name?……“, she questioned.
As Panic started to grip me once more
I heard her say, “Her name is Faith“.
