Chapter 28
Chapter 20: Lily Rabbit Avatar
Luc had just gone to the cale to call Emma Johnson, but after several attempts, all he heard was, “The number you are dialing is out of service
This was because Emma had received numerous nuisance calls throughout the day. To combat this, she had installed an app on her phone that automatically blocked any calls flagged from certain numbers. Unfortunately, Luc’s number had been blacklisted due to his earlier behavior. However, Mayline’s number, saved under her real name, was still able to get through. As a result, Luc kept getting busy signals or out–of–service prompts when he
tried to reach her.
Fine, so you want to play this game with me? You’ll regret it! Luc thought, smirking as he decided to block Emma’s number and her Instagram account. He was looking forward to the moment when she would come crawling back, begging for his forgiveness.
The next day was Monday. As soon as Emma arrived at the hospital, she confidently informed Drector Fred that she would be going to the western regions for support. He granted her ten days to prepare, fifteen days ahead of the original schedule and even gave her a two-day leave before her departure
Feeling elated, Emma returned to her office. Her cheerful demeanor caught the attention of her colleagues, Janice and Mia, who exchanged glances and slipped away to the bathroom for a private chat.
“Hey, Nurse Mia, where are you off to? Nurse Janice isn’t here, and I need your help in a bit, called Dean Brown, another colleague
Doctor Brown, Fm just heading to the bathroom. I’ll be back shortly,” Mia replied.
In the bathroom, Mia leaned in, ensuring no one else was around. Janice, didn’t you say she had a falling out with Doctor Luc? Why does she look so happy today?”
Janice, busy fixing her hair and applying lipstick in the mirror, replied nonchalantly. “Mia, don’t be fooled by appearances, Who knows, they might be
getting a divorce.”
“Wait, are you serious? Where did you hear such serious news?” Mia asked, her eyes widening.
Janice couldn’t wait for them to split up. If Doctor Luc were single again, she would seize the opportunity. She had always been jealous that Emma had
taken him away from her.
Biting her lip. Janice caught Mia’s questioning look in the mirror. Quickly composing herself, she said, “One with love in his eyes and the other blind to it. Isn’t a divorce inevitable? Why bother asking?”
She continued, “Didn’t you notice she didn’t bring takeout to the eighth floor after lunch today?”
Mia’s eyes it up. “Janice, now that you mention it, she did come back earlier than usual. Could they be…
“Having a cold war!” Janice interjected, a mocking smile curling on her lips.
“After being cold for so long, it’s hard to return to warmth,” Janice added, enjoying the gossip.
“Janice, you’re so observant! I didn’t even notice. Usually, she’s glued to her phone, checking Instagram messages constantly, but not today.” Mia
remarked.
“You’ll see, it won’t be long before the news of their divorce gets out!” Janice declared confidently
After finishing her statement, Mia tossed her hair and headed for the door, rolling her eyes at Janice’s vanity. She didn’t like Janice either; always founting herself in front of the male colleagues as if the hospital were a nightclub. But compared to Janice, her resentment for Emma was stronger. Since Luc Taylor joined the hospital, Mia had admired him from afar. But Emma, in her opinion, had shamelessly taken him away.
Mia couldn’t stand the fact that Emma sent him flowers and chocolates every day, always being an attentive partner. How could such a woman catch Luc’s eye? it made her seethe with jealousy.
If only she had known, she would have made more of an effort from the start–sending him dinner, flowers, chocolates, cakes, and fruit. She believed her beauty was just as captivating as Emma’s. That dowdy woman, always in T–shirts and jeans, lacked any sense of femininity.
Meanwhile, Luc–sensed that Emma wouldn’t be bringing him food that day. Even though he didn’t expect it, habits were hard to break. When it was past 1:00 PM and he still hadn’t seen her, he decided to go downstairs to grab a bite to eat
As he checked his phone, he received an Instagram message. Thinking it was from Emma, he hurriedly opened it, only to feel disappointed.
“Luc, Lindsey is going back to her hometown, you know that, right?” it was a message from Jake.
“Yeah, I know!” Luc quickly replied.
Jake continued. “How about we all get together tomorrow?”
Luc wasn’t in the mood to chat with him at that moment, so he didn’t respond. Noticing his silence, Jake initiated a group message, “Hey everyone, let’s hang out tomorrow night?”
No one replied.
Lue set his phone down and leaned back in fus chair, closing his eyes for a moment. He picked up his phone again and swiped through Instagram, searching for Emma’s profile. It was the first time he actively sought her out, but her cute Lili Rabbit avatar was no longer visible. He remembered that he
had blacklisted Emma on Instagram, which meant he wouldn’t receive hei messages.
This realization brought him some relief. Every other day, her messages annoyed him, and he found her incessant notifications overwhelming. Emma had
once begged him to change his avatar to Peter Rabbit, but he had dismissed it as “childish” After that, she never asked again.
Now, he thought the Lil Rabbit avatar was adorable. Without hesitation, he removed Emma from his blacklist. As soon as he did, his phone rang. His heart raced as he grabbed it, almost dropping it in surprise. The number was somewhat familiar yet felt foreign. He took a deep breath and answered.
“Luc. it’s Greg”
..What do you want?” Luc replied, trying to sound casual.
“Why can’t I call you just to hang out? I’m inviting you to play tennis. I know your skills were lacking last time, but there’s room for improvement. I have some free time these days. I can teach you.”
Greg’s cheerful tone echoed through the phone. Luc knew Lindsey was returning home, and Jaké had just suggested a meetup in the group. Why not invite Greg first, leaving Jake scrambling? it annoyed him that Jake liked Lindsey but lacked the courage to pursue her, always hiding in the background like a
guardian.
