Chapter 30 – Not Wanting to Return
“Take your time!” Jane held up a dress in front of herself, casually responding to Luc. But a puzzled look crossed her face as she turned to him. “Luc, you wouldn’t want your mother and Soraya to go home, would you?”
“Nope “Lue felt a churn in his stomach, his dark eyes dimming as he sat elegantly on the sofa, rubbing his abdomen
Jane dropped the dress she was holding With a Thump, thump, thump, the sound of her high heels echoed as she approached Luc, a mocking smile on her lips Luc, are you annoyed that we’re here? Or is it because Emma knows Sorays and I are around and is deliberately staying away?” Her cold, piercing
voice struck Luc’s ears.
A flicker of emotion crossed Luc’s face: “Mom, don’t overthink it. Why would I be annoyed?”
Jane raised her voice “So, there’s another reason then?”
Luc furrowed his brows and massaged his forehead. “Mom, it’s not what you think. Emma is at home taking care of her parents. She doesn’t know you’re
Jane’s anger surged like a tidal wave. Pointing at the front door, she yelled, “Call her now and tell her to come back! I want to see what she’s planning! Impressive! She doesn’t come back and even stirs you against us? This is the Taylor family home, not her playground
Luc’s eyes darkened like a stormy night. If you want to call her, go ahead. I’m tired. I’m going upstairs to rest “With that, he headed for the stairs.
Jane’s gaze remained fixed on him until he was out of sight, then she turned away, furious. It was the first time she had seen her son give her the cold shoulder, making her stomp her foot in frustration
“Mom, calm down.” Soraya said gently, walking over to comfort her.
“There’s no point in being upset with him. My brother has always been like this. If you want to blame anyone, blame Emma. I remember when she was al sweet and agreeable. I never knew she could scheme behind our backs.”
At the mention of Emma, a fire ignited in Jane’s eyes. Her hands clenched into fists as her anger deepened.
1 Luc. Jane She had planned to stay with Soraya while waiting for Lindsey to return from abroad, hoping to prevent any reconciliation between Emma and was convinced that once Lindsey returned, Luc would quickly make the wise choice to divorce Emma. However, it seemed her presence in Back Bay wi
hindering their relationship.
“Mom, since brother wants us to return to Quincy, why don’t we go back first? Lindsey will be back soon, and brother won’t be with Emma for much longer. If you obstruct him now, it will only make him see how great Emma is.”
Hearing Soraya’s words. Jane’s eyes sparkled with cunning. “You’re night, Soraya! The more I try to keep them apart, the closer they become”
Just like the Romeo and Juliet effect–the more obstacles, the stronger the love!
Realizing this, Jane quickly packed up with Saraya and called ther driver, Jerry, to pick them up. Without even informing Luc, they left.
When Mayline came to call him for dinner. Luc learned they were leaving. A twinge of guilt hit him. Wasn’t he being unfilial?
His mother and sister rarely visited Back Bay and had only stayed a few days. He had driven them away because of Emma. They hadn’t even said goodbye. Were they angry with him? Blaming him?
Every thought of Emma turned his eyes icy, radiating an intimidating aura. “Mayline call Emma. Now that the house is quiet, as she wished, what else is
she not satisfied with?”
Mayline sensed Dr. Taylor’s anger but wondered why he wanted her to make the call
However, with the mother daughter duo gone, it was time for Emma to return. Even if Dr. Taylor hadn’t asked her to call, she would have done so to share
the news
now”
“Oh, Dr. Taylor, I’ll call her right now
ke the call here”
Luc stared at the food on the table, devoid of appetite. “Just make the
Reluctantly, Mayline took out her phone and dialed Emma’s number. Emma answered, “Mayline, good evening! Have you had dinner?”
Avoiding Luc’s gaze, Mayline spoke softly. “Yes, Dr. Johnson, I’ve already eaten, Mrs. Taylor and Miss Taylor have left.”
“Ch Mayline, thank you for your hard work. I’m going to have dinner now
“Alright “Emma hung up
Mayline glanced at Luc, who looked tense and cold as if a storm was brewing. He gripped his fork so tightly that it snapped, the force of his frustration evident
After a long silence, Luc hadn’t touched his food at all. Mayline stepped forward timidly. “Doctor Taylor, do you want your meal warmed up?”
“Mayline, lend me your phone.”
Mayline hesitated. When did you lose your phone?”
“Mayline Seeing her reluctance, Luc called out again,
“Mr. Taylor, here? Despite hesitation, she pulled out her phone and handed it to him.
“How do I unlock 17” Luc asked, frowning
“Mr. Taylor, I’m sorry, I forgot,” Mayline said awkwardly, using her fingerprint to unlock it. Luc quickly dialed Emma’s number.
Emma was out for dinner, planning to stay at Lisa’s house that night. She felt a bit reluctant about a particular person on the invite list for their high school reunion but couldn’t resist Lisa’s persuasion
“Mayline, is something wrong?” Emma asked when she received the call.
“Emma, when are you coming back?”
A chill ran through her, causing her heart to stutter. She would have forgotten about Luc if it hadn’t been for this call. Why was he calling her using Mayline’s phone?
A vein throbbed on Emma’s forehead as she tried to maintain her composure. “Luc? Why are you calling me from Mayline’s phone?”
Through gritted teeth, Luc replied coldly, “You don’t know why I’m using Mayline’s phone?”
