Chapter 31
Chapter 31: Mysterious Gift
Emma was puzzled. Frrr, what should I know?”
“You blocked my number on your phone, didn’t you? Why are you pretending now?”
Was she really the one who had set her phone that way, or was she just playing innocent? Luc let out a cold laugh
Did 17” She couldn’t recall doing anything of the sort
Then it hit her. A few days ago, she had installed an app to block spam calls. Could it be that the software had mistakenly labeled Lucas a spam caller?
“Why don’t you check your phone settings he suggested.
Was the really going to act clueless? Despite knowing her for three to four years, he surprisingly didn’t realize that Emma could be this oblivious. A mocking smile crept onto Lue’s lips.
Emma had no intention of checking her phone settings just because he told her to. She muttered to herself, “Why did only his number get blocked? Maybe it’s fate’s arrangement!”
Let it be blocked Anyway, he wouldn’t call her. For the past three to four years, she had always been the one to initiate contact. Sure enough, he hadn’t called her in the past week since she hadn’t reached out first. She quickly pushed that thought aside!
“Do you need anything else? Im going to eat, so I’m hanging up now.”
Emma! Can’t you hear me asking you to come home? Luc roared, his voice sharp and icy
Mayline the housekeeper, was about to retreat to the kitchen again, sensing that Emma probably didn’t plan to return, which only angered Dr. Taylor further. It was rare to see him this upset, and it was somewhat intimidating.
“Um, okay, bye “Emma had nothing more to discuss. After spending the afternoon with her father, she had come to understand that there was no need to cling to a love that didn’t belong to her. Besides, she had her father’s support
On the other end, Luc sighed in relief upon hearing her agreement. He thought she was returning to her usual obedient self. His pent up frustration slowly eased, thinking she didn’t want to come home, likely because his mother and sister were present
The idea that she might be coming back cleared the dark cloud from his face. His expression brightened, and his a he tapped lightly on the dining table and said, “Mayline, please heat up the dinner!”
“Alright, right away.”
appetite returned. With slender fingers.
Mayline noticed his improved demeanor and mused that it must be because Emma had decided to return. What couple doesn’t bicker now and then? If they resolved their issues themselves involving mothers and sisters–in–law would only complicate things!
Both the mother and daughter should have been sent away sooner. Maybe then, Emma would have come back earlier
As Mayline warmed up the food, she quietly observed Luc from a distance, sighing to herself–everyone was bringing this upon themselves!
After finishing his meal, Lue retired to his study. He estimated that it wouldn’t take Emma long to return from the Brookline District, even faster if she took the subway, as it took him about half an hour to drive there when traffic was light
Time ticked away, and while waiting in his study, Luc ended up dozing off on the couch.
After taking a bath and drying her hair, Emma sat with Lisa on the sofa, watching TV, chatting, and snacking. The atmosphere felt just like their high school days when they used to sneak snacks in their dorm.
“Emma, why didn’t you use your phone today? Lisa asked
“I rarely have time to sit down and watch TV with you, let alone catch a variety show. Who needs a phone in moments like this?”
As she focused on her favorite program, bursting into laughter at times, Lisa looked at her as if she were an alien–there she was again!
Just seeing her favorite show brought out that carefree, unguarded laughter. This version of Emma, the authentic, lively one, was the one they loved.
Since she began pursuing Luc, Lisa had thought Emma seemed absent–minded. Even during meals, Emma would often check instagram. Sometimes, even without a new notification, she would pull out her phone just to ensure it wasn’t on silent or that there weren’t any network issues
Whenever she heard a notification from Instagram, her eyes would light up with excitement. But if the message wasn’t from the person she hoped for, the light in her eyes would dim instantly.
Occasionally, she’d ask Lisa how to pursue a guy. She would search online for 72 tactics to win a man’s heart,” pondering what she could do to make him like her.
Emma transformed herself to the point where she barely resembled her old self. Lisa advised her to give up on Luc, saying. “A man who’s interested in you
won’t ignore you or leave your messages unanswered for hours or days. If he neglects you, it just means he’s not interested. Wake up?
Yet, Emma seemed enchanted by Luc. She refuted to bred any advice, making excuses for him, claiming he was just too busy to respond. Was it really possible for someone to avoid their phone for 24 hours, no matter how hectic life got?.
Seeing her persistence. Lisa decided not to discourage her further, believing some lessons needed to be learned the hai
the hard way
Just as she contemplated distancing herself to make Emma realize her one sided pursuit of Luc was futile, Luc suddenly proposed marriage????
Had her patience finally paid off? Considering a marriage without wedding photos, a ceremony, or even invitations–just a marriage certificate–would that make her happy?
Emma retorted that marriage shouldn’t be viewed superficially. It didn’t have to involve a banquet or wedding photos. She envisioned her future child trailing behind her in a bridal gown, a living testament to her and Luc’s love. Wouldn’t a family photo capture their joy even better?
Lisa noticed Emma laughing freely and asked, “Emma, are you okay?”
ng with me?” Emma replied, flashing a crescent moon–shaped smile as she snacked and returned to watching TV.
“Should there be something wrong
Strange! Very strange! Emma had stopped messaging and calling Luc.
“By the way, where’s the gift you brought me from the island? Are you just going to forget it if I don’t remind you?”
“Ahahaha. Oh, right, the gift!” Lisa tapped her forehead, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
“Hold on.”
By the time Emma received the gift, her cheeks had turned a rosy hue
me as a gift?”
“This is the lingerie set you’re giving me as
As she spoke, Lisa had already hidden herself in another room, peeking through a small crack in the door to watch Emma’s reaction
“Lisa, come here! I promise I won’t kill your
Lisa quickly shut the door, laughing from inside. “Emma, you’re overreacting! Go find Lue to cool down. This will come in handy. Hahaha…”
A sexy and charming polka dot lingerie set, fit for a star!
