Chapter 36
Chapter 36. Emma’s Opinion of Dand
Lisa blinked rapidly, subtly nudging Emma and gesturing for her to look at David, who was intently gazing at her from a distance With a neutral expression, Emma got into Lisa’s Mini Cooper and took the passenger seat. She urged, “Can we drive now?t
She had noticed David approaching them. There were no words to exchange, everything that needed to be said had already been addressed at their last gathering
As a married woman she felt it was important to keep her distance from other men to avoid gossip
““Lita, where are you staying now? Emma added
Seeing that Emma didn’t want to talk to him. David turned to Lisa instead, hoping to rekindle their old friendship
David, you’ve hidden yourself well. I never realized your family background was so affluent. Why did you choose to live in a less desirable neighborhood?”
Lisateased
David chuckled lightly, “Lisa, years have passed, yet your wit remains sharp.”
“Well d’s mutual. I’ve seen you dish it out too”
After saying this, she winked at Emma, who was in the car, Emma smiled slightly, thinking. If you two want to talk, go ahead. Don’t drag me into it.
“How’s your studio doing? David asked.
“Why? Planning to support my business, Invisible Prince? Lisa replied, seizing any opportunity that came her way, especially since she felt indebted to David and Elizabeth–a debt that couldn’t be measured in monetary terms. If she could squeeze out an extra dollar, she would. Her studio urgently needed
Investment for expansion
Id be arranged. Why not set up a detailed discussion for another day?”
David smiled lazily, That could be
He remembered that Emma had originally wanted to be a designer, but her mother had insisted that art was impractical and had unilaterally planned a bright future for her–one in medicine, thinking it would provide a good social standing and job security
Emma casually lowered the car window, waved her phone, and said, “Lisa, can you drop me off at my villa in Back Bay? My husband is urging me to come home on Instagram”
She wasn’t sure if it was her intuition of just a woman’s sensitivity, but she always felt that David was doing this on purpose, perhaps because she hadn’t told her classmates that she was married.
Upon hearing this, David seemed to have no response. He remained smiling and added Lisa on instagram. Emma, seeing this, made a self–deprecating remark, thinking she might be overthinking things.
He must genuinely be interested in Lisa’s studio and want to collaborate. After all, the clothes designed by Lisa were indeed attractive, and she had
natural talent for design.
“We’re connected now, so I’ll drop off Emma first. We’ll make plans later, Lisa said, winking at Emma, looking radiant. She hopped into her car and waved to David, “Next time we meet, I’ll have to call you Boss Harper, goodbye”
She fastened her seatbelt, stepped on the accelerator, and sped off in her Mini Cooper.
David stood shocked in the same spot, withdrawing his deep gaze after a long moment. His eyes, deep as an ancient well, shimmered with subtle lights. Hearing Emma mention that her husband was urging her to come home made his heart ache suddenly, and even his breathing felt weak. If not for a misunderstanding in the past, he believed he would have been the one waiting for her at home now
After all, he had wronged her. Now, he deserved it!
Lisa asked, “Wasn’t it supposed to be Brookline Community?”
“We’re going to Back Bay. I’ll be heading west in a few days and need to pick up some clothes and shoes,” Emma suddenly remembered she stil
some items to colect
“Oh! Then I’ll drop you off at Back Bay” “Lisa said with a smile. “Emma, I truly wish you hadn’t gotten married.”
i had
Emma didn’t immediately catch the hidden meaning in Lisa’s words and replied nonchalantly. I wish weren’t married tool if I weren’t, I wouldn’t have been caught in so many annoying problems!”
“Eh? Emma, you’re not serious, are you? Hahaha.
Lisa was stunned. It couldn’t be what she was thinking, could in? Hahaha…
Seeing Lisa laughing uproariously, Emma shot her a cold glare: “Lisa, what do you mean by that?”
It’s exactly what you think it is.
Emnia chuckled coldy. “Thut igi Juct drive your chi
y why would
When nonsensel Even if she were single the woolden he any feelings for David. They were pat classmates and friends back in the day rumors about twin women fighting over one man spread armund school?
That was ridiculous”
Speaking of which, did you ever have feelings for David back then? Lisa asked playfully.
After Lisa finished her statement, the corner of her mouth turned up, her eyes full of mischief. She was inclined to believe that Emma hadn’t
Given Emma’s passionate pursuit of Luc later on her diligent study of cooking, her attentiveness to his every word, and her round–the-clock devotion, that
must have been her way of expressing love!
“No.“)
“Really? You didn’t? Then why didn’t you clarity things at school?”
While Lisa looked somewhat surprised, deep inside she felt she had guessed right
“Sister, during our high school days, we were so busy with our studies. Remember how much pressure we all faced? My face was breaking out with pimples, who had time for such trifles? Besides, why should I bother to explain? If they can’t think straight, why should I correct their misunderstandings?”
“You are a ruthless queen! Your words are always so sharp! Hahaha.”
True, the more I try to clarity, the more people think I’m trying to cover something up. After all, spectators tend to lean towards their conjectures rather than accepting what isn’t what they imagined.
Even though Lisa found it hard to believe, she couldn’t help but ask, “You don’t have even a tiny bit of affection for him?”
Emma didn’t want to answer, but knowing Lisa’s cunosity, she knew she’d keep probing
“I might have a slight appreciation. But it’s hardly romantic. It’s more of an admiration for his excellent academic achievements. As you know, every top
scholar has their admirers.
Lisa pursed her lips 11 David heard this, he’d be furious. He’s always thought you were infatuated with him, which is why he believed you were deliberately making things difficult for Elizabeth. But only I know that’s not the kind of person you are.”
“Let the past be the past. Let bygones be bygones.”
“But it seems like David can’t let it go. He wouldn’t have shown up at the reunion otherwise
Lisa admired Emma’s ability to move on but also felt a bit sorry for David. If it weren’t for Elizabeth’s interference, she believed Emma and David wouldn’t
have ended up like this.
David had feelings for her, and she had some affection for him too. This showed she didn’t outright dislike him. Often, a spark of admiration could be the beginning of love.
Maybe, if things had stayed as they were, Emma wouldn’t have married Luc. Perhaps she and David could have become a couple and even gotten married
What a pity
Privately, Lisa still felt that Luc was no match for David, as she didn’t feel Luc’s love for Emma.
But more
than anything, she felt sorry for Emma for marrying a man who didn’t love or cherish her. Her marriage probably wasn’t all that happy!
“Whether he can let it go or not, what does it have to do with me?” Emma said, her eyes gazing at the neon lights lining the streets. She gave a faint smile, reminding herself to look forward, forget the past, shed her burdens, and move on to discover new beautiful things—
