Chapter 40
Chapter 40 Love and Non–Leve
Emma had never seen Luc like this. His face was no longer icy, instead, he slightly raised almond eyes sparkled with affection. The corners of his mouth curled into a warm smile, and the spring warmth in his eyes radiated butward. All his patience had been revealed. He draped one arm over the woman’s shoulder while using the other to assist her with her luggage. His expression was gentle, a stark contrast to the sullen demeanor he usually wore around
The beautiful woman, linked with him, was the same face Emma had recognized iddle of the street in her previous. Ife. Her features were exquisite, and it was no wonder Luc was always thinking about her, reserving the passenger seat for her and not allowing anyone else to sit there.
As if sensing her presence, Luc turned to look at Emma with his passionate almond eyes Upon realizing it was her, his smile froze Panic flickered in his eyes as if he had been caught cheating. He stood there, motionless, his hand on Lindsey’s shoulder sløping down
Lindsey casually wrapped her arm around him, resting her head on his shoulder. “Tuc, floston Airport has changed a lot over the years. It’s not like it was five years ago,” she said tenderly.
Emma coldly turned her gaze away. She took out a pair of sunglasses from her trench coat pocket and put them on catually. The sunglasses concealed her thoughts and blocked Luck attempts to gauge her reaction through her eyes.
Those cool black sunglasses isolated him from her decisively, making Luc feel as if thousands of mountains and rivers separated them. Emma gripped
the handle of her suitcase tightly and began walking toward the boarding gate.
In the direction she was heading. Luc happened to be in her path. He thought Emma was approaching him. His deep almond eyes were dark and filled with
panic
Closer, closer, even closer. Each step Emma took toward him felt like a thousand pounds pressing down, an overwhelming heaviness engulfing him.
Just as he prepared himself for her questioning. Emma brushed past them with her suitcase. She seemed distant and unfamiliar, as if she didn’t recognize him, and gracefully headed toward the boarding gate

hurriedly reached out and grabbed her wrist. His deep voice trembled slightly. “It’s not… what you think.”
Emma paused but didn’t turn around. She glanced at her left hand held by him. A hint of a cold smile appeared at the corner of her mouth. While lowering her suitcase, she sipped her other hand into her trench coat pocket. She didn’t turn around or speak time seemed to stand still
The busting airport terminal felt suffocatingly narrow for Luc, almost as if he were in darkness. Seeing Emma’s indifference, trying to pull her wrist fre from his gro, sent a pang through his heart. He continued urgently. “It’s not what you think I’m just here to pick her up. She’s my friend.”
Had he ever been patient enough to explain so much to Emma in the four years he had known her? Emma, unable to break free from his firm hold, slightly titted her body and said coldly through her sunglasses:
“Mr Taylor, I know you can hardly wait, but could you at least show me some respect? After all, we haven’t finalized our divorce paperwork yet. How could you be so audacious, hugging and cuddling without restraint? Aren’t there plenty of hotels near the airport? If you can’t wait any longer, please bear with d Besides, wouldn’t it be quite right for both of us if gossip spread among the hospital colleagues already gathering in the airport lounge?”
“Emma, you! Could you not be so bitter when you speak?
Luc’s face flushed with anger. His eyes shimmered with fury as they remained fixed on the woman’s exquisite and frostily aloof face, a sight he had never seen before She displayed such an icy demeanor. Why hadn’t he noticed it before?
Beneath Emma’s cold sunglasses, the tip of her delicate nose was lifted, and her rosy lips glistened like morning dew. An elusive scent of orchid wafted into his nostrils, leaning him spellbound Her enchanting lips continued to move, speaking
“This is being bitter? It’s a thousand times more pleasant compared to what the Taylor family has said.”
Emma pulled free from his grip, looked at the red mark on her wrist, rubbed it, and continued to infuriate him without remorse
Luc’s eyes, dark as aged wells, bore a desolate expression, blanketed by paleness. In his mind, the words of his mother and Soraya echoed, “Emma is only after our Taylor family’s money, looking for your family background, and only showed her true colors because she knew she couldn’t carry out her plans
“She has been a fawning symbolizer for all these years?”
“She’s not even worth one of Lindsey’s toes
“She’s not even qualified to be your maid, I don’t know why you would marry her!”
Is the daughter of a small–town tailor deserving to climb up our Taylor family?”
Lue, who is she?”
Lindsey stood still watching as Luc held another woman’s hand. She narrowed her eyes, focusing on his clenched hand. The woman seemed indifferent to him, striding over in her high heels with a haughty air, Her gaze was somewhat displeased, her eyebrows lightly furrowing as she measured Emma from head to toe. Although her smile was warm, her finely masked face betrayed a hint of condescension and disdain.

Upon hearing the words soon–to–be ex–wife. Lucs expression became icy cold, his heart tightened, and his mind swirled. The dizzying feeling caused him
smile. “You are Emma, night? Luc has mentioned you. Hello, I’m Lindsey, his first love”
ning through her sunglasses at Lindsey, Emma found her confident, arrogant, dazzlingly beautiful, and very aggressive. So, this was the type of woman
Then why had he told her he preferred women who were modest, virtuous, gentle, and obedient?
The woman in from of her was indeed beautiful, but nothing like modest and virtuous. Perhaps this was the difference between love and non–love, right?
Those who don’t love try to mold their partners into what they want, while those who truly love respect their partner’s preferences and do not try to
Those who don’t love see the other person as a clay figure, redesigning them into an ideal obedient and virtuous wife. To put it bluntly, treating her like an
object
Those in love place her at the center of their hearts, cherishing and protecting her like a prized possession. They are extra careful, fearing they might
break her by accident, womed about upsetting her.
Emma gave a chilly nod, grabbed her luggage, and headed toward the boarding gate, leaving Luc standing there with forlorn eyes The feeling of loss swamped him like a wave, drowning the joy Lindsey’s return had brought him.
