It read:
“I, Ava, do not have
leukemia. I am not the one who needs a bone marrow transplant. My husband will
<
not be giving away his house to anyone!”
“Also, I am no longer a part
of the Johnson family,
Robert Johnson is trying to scam you, so investigate for yourselves! The
consequences of donating
bone marrow are your own, and have nothing to do with me.”

The chat exploded again.
The younger members of my
family who had common
sense started asking
questions.
“Uncle, what’s going on?
Sarah is sick, so why are you saying it’s Ava?”
“Uncle, are you trying to play favorites? You disowned Ava
when you thought that she was sick, and now you are
trying to trick us into
donating because it’s Sarah?!”
“Uncle, aren’t you being a little too obvious? No one

will donate to your family,
after this.”
My uncle also chimed in.
“Robert, this isn’t very nice. We are family, there was no reason to trick us. It’s not
even about the money, you just can’t treat people like
this.
Seeing that things weren’t
working out as planned,
Sarah finally had to take the
stage.
She sent a voice note.
In the recording, she was crying and pleading with her
relatives for help. She said
that she would use her own
money to pay for the house,
and she would forever be
grateful.
But everyone knew that she and her husband had signed a pre–nuptial agreement, and she had no real assets.
And Robert had used his
money to buy Matt a house, so he also didn’t have any
money.

Someone then sent a
screenshot.
It was of Sarah saying,
“Being scared of risks is totally normal. It’s not shameful if you don’t want to donate. You all have
families of your own to take care of. If I’m being honest, if I was the one with
leukemia, I wouldn’t ask anyone in my family to help.”
The group chat went silent.
That message was there, like a giant slap in the face, and it was aimed at Sarah.

Some of Robert’s immediate
relatives were upset, but some of them went to get
tested.
My uncle, his other brothers, and a couple of his cousins.
But none of them were a
match.
Finally, my mom came to
- me.

I was pulled into Sarah’s
room. The giant suite had several cameras set up.
My mom immediately kneeled in front of me.
“Ava, please, you have to save your sister! Only you and your sister are a match, why won’t you save her?”
I looked around and realized
that this was a live–stream.
My colleagues ran to me and showed me that thousands
of people were watching.
“She’s a horrible person, how can she not save her
own sister?”
“Yeah, she’s a doctor, but
she won’t save her own
sister. Why should she help anyone else?”
“Which hospital does this doctor work at? I need to
make sure I never go there!”
I went cold.
I turned off my phone and
stared at my mam
<
stared at my mom.
“If I don’t donate, you will try to destroy me, right?”
“You destroyed one and are trying to destroy the other, aren’t you worried about
losing both of your children?”
My mother avoided eye contact, and her face went red.
But when she caught sight of Sarah in the hospital bed,
her face hardened.
It was a strength I’d never seen, this was how a mother looked when she was protecting her children.
My mom started slamming her head into the ground.
“Ava, please, for the sake of
the four years we spent together, please save your sister. You would only be donating bone marrow, it’s not risky! Why are you so stubborn?!”
“Mom knows you are jealous
