That afternoon, my assistant brought a guy
into my office.
The CEO of the company that set up the
schemes.
I had met him before and talked to him a lot,
so we knew each other.
He said, “The fish took the bait. I’m getting
out of here. You need to get ready.”

The guy gave me a check. “Fifty–fifty. Here’s
your half. I wired it through different banks,
so they can’t track it back to you.”
“Pleasure doing business!”
That night, Mark asked me to dinner. I
brought my bodyguards and assistant.
Mark smiled. He wasn’t sucking up to me
anymore. He looked dark.
“Leah, how have you been?”
“Better than ever.”
He chuckled. “I heard your big project got
stolen. You got any money? I can help you.”
He looked confident, stared at me. “I dumped
Ashley. I can go back to treating you like
before.”
“I just had eye surgery, and I didn’t see you.
You’re a short, ugly toothpick man!”
I looked disgusted, and Mark lost it.
He grit his teeth. “Don’t come begging me for
help. I’m going to pay you back for
everything.”
He wasn’t pretending anymore. “You couldn’t
beat me last time. What makes you think you
can win this time?”
“Oh, the project you took over?

“So you still like taking my scraps. You’ve
been so stupid, I didn’t think you’d learn a
thing.”
Mark got angry, wanted to show off, but I
already knew he had stolen the project.
Then he looked like he realized something,
turned pale, and started calling people.
A few minutes later, Mark looked more
miserable than I’ve ever seen him.
He fell on the floor, glared at me. “It was you,
bitch! You paid someone to screw me! I put all my money in it, goddamn it!”
He tried to get up and hit me, but the
bodyguards held him down.

I sat down and enjoyed my expensive dinner.
“A cancer vaccine? Only an idiot would
believe that. You bet everything. The last few
nights, I’ve been laughing in my dreams.”
“Oh, and I forgot, when the company’s stock
dropped, you thought you were getting a
bargain? The system was delayed.”
Finding a hacker was easy, they made a copy
for me.
Mark looked even more desperate. “Damn
you, bitch, I’ll kill you.”
I grabbed a plate and hit him in the face. “I’ve

guess why I haven’t turned you in? Because
I’m not done with you.”
Summer ran in, holding a pair of big cleats.

Summer was my best friend. I told her
everything about last time, and she cried and

Then there was screaming.
The police showed up and took Mark away.
They were scared to say anything to me or
Summer. They dragged Mark out, running.
Attempted murder, escaping justice, and
