On the way back to the Brown Mansion, Kyle sneered at me, “The man you picked isn’t much
of a catch. He just abandoned you like this.”
I leaned back in the soft seat, closing my eyes as if I were pretending to sleep.
Hearing Kyle’s mockery, I opened my eyes and looked out the window.
After a moment of silence, I spoke, “Maybe this is better. I don’t owe anyone anything.”
Kyle seemed about to say something, but I closed my eyes again.
Still, I could feel his burning gaze on me.
But I was tired, too tired to care.
When we arrived at the Brown Mansion, the suffocatingly strong scent of flowers filled the air,
and I looked at the blooming roses with a faint smile on my lips.
My skin was starting to burn and ache, and if it weren’t for the system easing some of the
pain, I would’ve probably fainted by now.
When Kyle saw the smile on my face, his tone softened a little. “What kind of flowers do you
like? I’ll buy some for you.”
I shook my head and replied calmly, “I don’t like flowers. Don’t bother, my dear
brother–in–law.”
The words “brother–in–law” made Kyle’s face visibly darken.
I ignored him.
The system asked why I decided to come back.

In my mind, I replied, “This thick pollen is deadly to me, but I want to give Kyle a wedding ”
The system asked, “Even if it’s going to make you feel so uncomfortable?”
I nodded.
Just as I was having this internal conversation with the system, we had already entered

Brown Mansion.
Kyle’s father, Trevor, and my mother, Sabrina, were waiting for us there, coaxing Vanessa,
who was crying. When Vanessa saw me, she started crying even harder.
She sobbed, “I thought Jas hated me and didn’t want to be my bridesmaid!”
Trevor didn’t say anything, but his gaze was complicated.

My mother looked at me with obvious disdain. She coldly said, “You wicked girl. Don’t you
know today is Nessa’s wedding? What are you running around for? Don’t you want Nessa to be
happy?”
Kyle couldn’t stand seeing Vanessa cry. He walked over to her and gently wiped away her
tears.
Seeing this, I thought I would be upset, but instead, my heart was at peace. I even felt like
laughing.
Vanessa, still crying, said, “Is it because Jas isn’t happy about us getting married? I know Jas has always liked Kyle. If Jas isn’t happy, then we shouldn’t get married… Kyle, I’m sorry.”
Kyle looked a little flustered.
He hugged Vanessa and softly reassured her, “Don’t overthink it. Jasmine doesn’t like me. We have nothing to do with each other.”
Vanessa stopped crying and asked, “Really?”
Kyle nodded seriously. “Really. You can ask Jasmine yourself. When I found her, she was with
another man.”
Vanessa immediately stopped crying and smiled, “Is that Jas‘ boyfriend? What’s he like?”
Kyle grew silent.
I smiled and said, “He’s not my boyfriend, but if he’s willing, I wouldn’t mind dating him.”
Hearing this, Kyle turned grim.
He blurted out, “A man like that? Don’t let yourself be tricked and lose both your mind and
body.”
Looking at Kyle’s handsome face, I couldn’t help but find it amusing.
I said calmly, “My mind and body were already lost long ago. Want me to tell you why?”
Kyle’s eyes flickered with a trace of panic.
At that moment, my mother slapped me hard across the face, her voice sharp. “How could I have such a shameless daughter? Today is your sister’s wedding! Stay quiet and don’t speak out
of turn.”
I silently looked at her, my heart bitter.
It turned out my mother had known all along about my past with Kyle.
I let out a snort. Like the old Jasmine, I had always longed for my mother’s affection. But now,
I finally accepted it: Mothers weren’t born to love their children after all.
