My friend and I left the office together.
く
When we reached the underground parking
lot, she said as she drove, “Liam and
Seraphina must be over, right? I knew he was
still into you. You just have to be mad, and
he’ll drop her no matter how much he likes
her.”
+
I smiled, “Maybe.”
Seraphina had been calling Liam a lot these
days.
I’d seen it.
But Liam never answered.
Even when I’d said, “Why don’t you pick up?
It might be important.”
Liam had looked at me. His eyes were so
<
complicated, so frustrated and sad. “Don’t
you mind?”
I looked at him and shook my head.
“No, I don’t mind.”
I just didn’t care anymore.
And right in front of me, Liam blocked
Seraphina’s number.
Like he really had changed his mind.
During dinner, my friend asked, “Now that
he’s changed, are you still going through with
the divorce?”
I didn’t answer.
く
I looked out the window.
It was getting dark, there were few people on
the street.
A man was standing under a streetlight. I
couldn’t see his face, but his figure was tall
and straight.
A girl came down from an apartment building
and ran into his arms. The man looked down.
and kissed her eye.
A car drove by.
The light shone on their faces.
It was Liam and Seraphina.
I watched them for a bit, then took a few
<
pictures.
Right then, my phone rang.
It was a text from Liam.
[Are you done? I’m on my way.]
[Don’t come. I’m not going back tonight.]
He replied in seconds.
[OK.]
I looked down.
Liam was holding Seraphina’s hand and
walking into the apartment.
Both of them were smiling.
