“I imagine using her own son’s finger bones would make them
even more potent.”
Moments later, blood–curdling screams echoed through the
mansion, seemingly endless.
Meanwhile, my brother and I were organizing the evidence we
had gathered over this period.
My brother’s friend back home also sent good news, saying they had helped us contact the doctor from the hospital where our father was admitted years ago.
We were just about to pack our things and head back to the States.
Just then, there was a sudden knock at the door.
A man was kneeling outside – it was Rylan.
“Britta, I’ve come to take you home.“I hadn’t even processed
what was happening when my brother’s fist smashed into Rylan’s face.
“How dare you come here! You beast, how dare you!”
Rylan didn’t dodge at all, taking each of my brother’s punches head–on while continuously apologizing.
“I’m sorry, brother. I’m sorry, Britta. It’s all my fault. I’m a beast. I know I was wrong. I know I was wrong.”
“I just wanted to say a few words to Britta. Please, brother…”
My brother showed no reaction, but his punches grew stronger. “I’m not your damn brother!”
Seeing Rylan’s face covered in blood, I grabbed my brother’s
arm.
“Stop it. You’ll kill him if you keep going.”
“Rylan, go home. I have nothing more to say to you.”
Hearing me speak, Rylan immediately crawled forward on his knees.
“Then just listen to me, Britta. Listen to me. I haven’t signed the divorce papers. We’re not divorced yet. Let’s go home together, okay?”
okay?”
Hearing such shameless words, my brother tried to lunge at him
again.
I quickly held my brother back, then looked at Rylan kneeling
before me.
“Home? What home? What would we do there? Watch you and
Lily roll around in bed?“Still this time, do you want to kill me and use my bones to make a bracelet for her?”
Rylan’s body suddenly stiffened.
“That’s not it, Britta. I didn’t do it. She bribed someone at the
funeral home. I didn’t know…”
I couldn’t help but snicker.
“You didn’t know? And then what? Because you didn’t know, it has nothing to do with you? Because you didn’t know, I should forgive you?”
“Then why did my parents die? You don’t know that either? Rylan, I heard everything you said to your secretary that day.” The moment I finished speaking, Rylan’s face turned deathly pale, unable to utter another word.
I was clearly smiling, yet tears fell from my eyes.
“So why do you think I would go back with the person who murdered my parents?”
My tears fell in big drops as Rylan’s body
uncontrollably.
He frantically searched his pockets, pulling out the charm I had given him two days ago and cradling it in his palm.
“Britta, you love me, don’t you?”
“The abbot in Tibet told me, this charm was something you got
by kowtowing every three steps for a day and a night. You love
me, don’t you?”
“Forgive me this once, please, please Britta…”
