15: Put her down
What does she mean by “he gotta go“? Who has to go? My brain was spinning, trying to piece it together. Georgia smirked, and that was when it hit me, she meant death. She was talking about Pa Greg. My eyes widened in shock, and she laughed, turning her back like this was some kind of joke.
She was going to kill him.
I had to do something–anything–but as I tried to sit up, I realized I was still cuffed to the hospital bed. “Damn this,” I muttered under my breath, tugging at the cold metal around my wrist.
Georgia turned to glance at me one last time, her smirk still there. “Don‘ t hurt. yourself,” she said mockingly before leaving the room. Her heels clicked against the floor, the sound echoing in my head.
Panic set in. I had to stop her. I couldn’t

let her get away with this, but I was powerless, stuck and helpless.
I pressed the call button frantically, and a nurse came rushing in. “Please, you have to call Keith,” I told her. My voice was shaky, but I tried to sound calm.
The nurse frowned. “Keith left earlier,” she said softly. “He didn’t say when he’d be back.”
I froze. He left? Without taking the cuffs off? How could he leave me like this? “If Keith is gone, then what will happen to Pa Greg?” I mumbled, half to myself.
Just then, the door burst open, and Sally came running in, looking frantic. “I can’t find Pa Greg!” she blurted, breathing hard.
My heart dropped. “What do you mean you can’t find him?” I asked, my voice rising in panic.
“I went to get him some fresh blankets,” Sally said quickly, “but when I came back,

he was gone. I looked everywhere!”
“Call Keith,” I told her, the words tumbling out fast.
“I already did. He’s on his way,” she assured me, but it did nothing to calm me down. My mind was racing. Georgia had to be behind this. My gut knew it. I could feel it like a heavy stone in my chest.
What was she planning? Where was Pa Greg? My pulse pounded in my ears as I stared at the door, waiting.
A few minutes later, Keith came storming into the room. He was out of breath, his face tight with worry, but there she was- Georgia–right by his side, calm as ever. That scheming bitch.
“What happened?” Keith demanded, turning to Sally.
Sally spoke quickly, her hands wringing in front of her. “I just left to get him
blankets, Keith. I swear I was only gone a minute. When I came back, he was gone. I

don‘ t know how.”
Keith’s jaw tightened, and I saw the muscle twitch. I decided it was time to speak. “Why am I still cuffed to this bed, Keith?” I said, my voice cold. “I need to get up.

Keith turned to the officer stationed
outside the door and signaled for him to come in. “Uncuff her,” he ordered.
Georgia stepped forward, her fake sweetness dripping through her voice.
“Keith, are you sure about this? She‘ s DE still a suspect-”
re
“I said uncuff her,” Keith cut her off, his voice firm.
The officer didn’t hesitate this time. Within seconds, the cuff clicked open, and I rubbed my ankle, relieved to finally be free. But as much as I wanted to jump up and do something, I didn’t know where to
start.

this? Would he even believe me? My gut. told me no. To him, Georgia could do no wrong. She was always a step ahead, always playing innocent while spinning her webs of lies.
Just then, the door opened again, and two hefty men walked into the room. They looked serious, their faces hard as stone.
One of them stepped forward. “We found your grandfather.”
“What?” Georgia‘ s voice rang out, sharp and loud. She sounded almost panicked, though she tried to cover it up with surprise.
“What do you mean WHAT?” Keith shot back at her, his tone sharp with suspicion.
Georgia quickly changed her expression, plastering on a fake smile. “I‘ m just… happy they found Pa Greg,” she said, her voice softer now, pretending to be relieved. But I saw through her lies. She wasn’t happy at all–she was worried.

“There’s also another piece of good news,” one of the hefty men added.
Keith turned to him. “Go ahead.”
The man nodded. “Pa Greg is conscious now.”
Hearing those words made my heart leap with relief. I didn’t even think. I stood up immediately, wobbling slightly but determined. “I want to see Pa Greg,” I said.
Without wasting time, we all rushed out of my ward and headed to his. My heart was pounding, half in excitement and half in fear of what might happen next. When we entered his room, there he was–sitting up in bed.
But something wasn‘ t right. As soon as his eyes landed on us–or maybe just Georgia–his face changed. The color drained from it, and his expression twisted in fear. He lifted a shaky hand and pointed straight at Georgia, his mouth opening and

closing as he tried to say something. No words came out, just a strained sound, like he was choking on the fear.
The machines around him started beeping rapidly. I froze, my stomach twisting in knots. Something was wrong.
A doctor rushed in, looking alarmed. “Please, all of you, wait outside,” he said firmly, shooing us out of the room.
As soon as the door closed behind us, I turned to Georgia. My chest was heaving, my anger boiling over. “Georgia, what did you do?” I demanded.
Before I knew it, my hand moved on its own, and I slapped her hard across the face. The sound echoed in the hallway. Georgia stumbled back, holding her cheek in shock.
But before I could say another word, Keith shoved me–hard. I lost my balance and fell, my head hitting the cold, hard floor with a sharp thud. Pain shot through me,

and I winced, clutching my head.
“Eden!”
I blinked, hearing a familiar voice. Becca. She was suddenly there, kneeling by my side, helping me sit up. I felt tears sting my eyes, but I was more shocked than hurt. I was happy to see her, though, and she turned her anger on Keith the moment she stood.
“This is the exact way you tossed her before she lost her child,” Becca spat at him.
Keith froze. His whole body stiffened, and I saw the guilt flash across his face, like her words had punched him in the gut.
“W–what?” Keith stammered, his voice unsteady.
Becca wasn’t done. She glared at him, her voice shaking with anger. “Yes, Keith. You killed your own child before he could even see the world.”

“Stop it,” I whispered weakly, tears already slipping down my face. I couldn’t take hearing this right now.
Keith’s face paled, his jaw clenching tightly. “What did you say?” he asked, his voice barely audible.
Becca turned to him with anger in her eyes. “You think Eden miscarried because of stress? No. You pushed her, Keith. You chose another woman over her, and you pushed her!”
My chest tightened. I couldn’t breathe. It was like everything was closing in on me, the words, the pain, the memories–it was too much. I clutched my chest, struggling for air.
Keith noticed and stepped forward, his face filled with concern. He looked panicked, like he wanted to help. “Eden…” he said softly, taking a step closer.
But before he could reach me, I felt strong arms scoop me up. Another person had

“Put her down,” I heard Keith’s voice
