19: Drop your weapon
Noah walked into the room, his presence filling the space. His eyes were fixed on me, and for a moment, I couldn’t even move. I had no idea what was happening.
“You are now with me, Eden,” he said, as if this was all normal.
I couldn’t believe it. “Did you just kidnap me?” I asked again, my voice shaky with disbelief.
Noah didn’t seem fazed by the question. He just stared at me, his expression softening as he spoke. “Well, it may look like that, but this is exactly what I’ve been telling you. I love you, Eden. I’m falling deeply for you. You‘ ll divorce Keith, and we’ll be together. Finally.”
His words hit me like a punch to the gut. I shook my head, trying to make sense of everything. “No,” I said firmly. “This will never happen. I’m afraid the feelings

you have for me aren’t mutual. It’s one- sided. I don’t have any affection for
you.
His face darkened immediately, his anger flashing through his eyes. I could see the shift, the way he went from calm to something much more dangerous.
“No,” he said, his voice cold now. “I told you before. We’re going to be together. You don’t have a choice in this. And let me tell you something else.”
He took a step closer, his gaze never leaving mine. “You know, my main motive at first was to use you to make Keith jealous. I knew he loved you, but he refused to admit it. I thought that if I took you from him, it would hurt him. But somewhere along the way, I fell for you. And now, you‘ re mine.”
His words sounded like a bad joke, like 2ke something that wasn’t even real. I stood
up, scoffing. “Is this some kind of joke?” I asked, disbelief dripping from my tone.

“You think I’ll just fall for this? What kind of person do you think I am?”
I could feel the rage building up inside me, but I couldn’t let him win. I turned
toward the door, trying to leave, but Noah wasn’t having any of it.
“Please,” I said, my voice desperate. “Where’s my handbag? I’m leaving here immediately.”
Before I could take another step, he grabbed my hair, yanking me backward.
The pain shot through my scalp, and I cried
out.
“Whether you like it or not, you will be my woman,” he said, his grip tight on my hair. “I can see Keith hasn’t been

“You think I’ll just accept that?” I spat, my voice trembling with anger and fear. “I’m not yours. I’ll never be yours.”
Noah didn’t respond. Instead, he pushed me toward the bed, his hand still gripping
hair as he shoved me forward. My body crashed onto the bed, and I fell hard, the impact knocking the breath out of me.

It’s been two weeks. Two long, miserable weeks since Noah kidnapped me.
I don’t even fight anymore. What’s the point? Keith probably thinks I left him for good. Maybe he’s happy I’m gone. The thought breaks me more than I care to admit. He won’t look for me. Why would he? I’ve spent every day locked in this room, losing hope, losing myself. I‘ m just… tired.
The door suddenly burst open with a loud bang, jolting me from my thoughts. I sat up quickly, my heart racing, as Noah stormed

- in. He looked nothing like the man I once thought I knew–his clothes were crumpled, his hair disheveled, and his eyes wild with panic. Something was wrong.
Before I could speak, he grabbed me, yanking me off the bed.
“Noah, what are you doing?” I cried, trying to pull my arm free, but his grip was like iron. “What’s going on?!”
He didn’t answer. He dragged me out of the room, through the long hallway, his footsteps echoing loudly. The whole house felt different–chaotic, tense. My stomach churned as fear began to settle deep in my bones.
Finally, at the top of the staircase, he turned to me, his eyes bloodshot and desperate. “Eden,” he whispered, his voice shaking. “I love you. I love you so much, and I’m not ready to lose you.”
His words made my skin crawl. My heart pounded painfully against my ribs as I

with terror. “Stop! Please!”
“You don’t understand!” Noah roared, his voice breaking. He turned toward the officers, the gun still against my head. “You need to take those damn rifles off me, or else I‘ 11 blast her head!”
I started to cry, my body trembling uncontrollably. This couldn’t be happening. How had it come to this? I thought Noah was just a desperate man, but now I saw him for what he was–a psychopath.
“Noah, please,” I begged through my tears. “You don‘ t have to do this.”
“Stop talking, Eden!” he snapped, his voice sharper now.
And then I heard another voice. A familiar voice.
“Noah, stop this!”
I turned my head as much as I could, and my heart nearly stopped. It was Keith. He

was standing at the front of the crowd, his face pale but determined. “You‘ Il rot in jail if you harm my wife,” he said firmly.
My heart jumped. Wife? Did he just call me his wife? I couldn’t understand it. For a brief moment, everything around me blurred–except those words.
Noah’s grip tightened as he shouted back, his voice cracking. “You think I’m playing games here?!” He cocked the gun with a chilling click, and I flinched. “I‘ 11 do it! I’ll blast her head if you don’t put those guns down!”
I was shaking, sobbing uncontrollably. My body felt weak, my mind spinning. I
didn’t know how this would end, but I was terrified it wouldn’t end well.
And then, through the chaos, I heard Keith’s voice boom over everything else.
“Everybody, drop your weapons!” Keith yelled at the officers.
I turned my head slightly to look at him.
