“You are doing no such thing.”
The voice boomed across the room, interrupting the tension in the room. We all froze, turning in unison to see Pa Greg. He was seated in his wheelchair, an agile presence even in his frailty. Behind him stood Sally, his ever–loyal maid.
“Grandpa, you shouldn’t be here. You should be resting,” Keith said, his voice laced with worry as he moved away from Georgia and hurried to his grandfather‘ s
side.
I didn’t stay back either. Struggling against the doctors who tried to hold me down, I freed myself and joined them. My chest heaved as I stood next to Pa Greg, seeking comfort in his authoritative
demeanor.
“I’m disappointed in you, Keith,” Pa Greg began, his voice stern and unwavering.

Georgia, who had been hovering awkwardly, greeted him with a polite smile. But Pa Greg’s piercing glare silenced her immediately. His voice rose, startling everyone. “Will you leave here right now, you pretentious, fake–life woman!”
Georgia‘ s face flushed with embarrassment, her eyes darting
nervously. Before she could respond, Becca stepped into the room. The look on her face confirmed my suspicion–she was the one who had brought Pa Greg here. My heart swelled with gratitude.
“Grandpa,” Keith started, his tone soft, pleading, “I can assure you, Georgia will walk fine if only you persuade Eden to help. After all, she always listens to you.”
His words hit me like a cold slap. My throat tightened, and my chest ached. Was this how little he thought of me? Was I nothing but a tool to him, someone to be used for Georgia’s sake?
My gaze shifted to Georgia, who was now

trying her best to appear pitiful. I knew better. Her legs weren’t bad at all; she was acting, and Keith was too blind to see it.
Pa Greg turned his sharp eyes to Keith. “Can you listen to yourself? Thank goodness for this young lady here,” he said, gesturing towards Becca. “She alerted me about the evil act you were planning to carry out with my daughter–in–law.”
Becca‘ s face remained composed, but I could sense her quiet satisfaction. She had saved me, and for that, I was grateful.
Keith opened his mouth to protest, but Pa Greg silenced him with a raised hand. “Nothing should happen to Eden. If anything happens to her, you won’t like the outcome.” His voice was low and dangerous, leaving no room for argument.
The room fell into a tense silence. Even
Georgia looked too stunned to speak.
“Prepare a date,” Pa Greg continued, his tone softening just slightly. “It’s been long

since I had dinner with the both of you.” He turned to Sally, his voice firm again. “Sally, take me out of here before my anger
escalates more.”
Sally nodded, her movements deliberate as she wheeled him out of the room. The
sound of the wheelchair‘ s tires against the floor was the only thing that broke the silence as they left.
And just like that, the storm passed, leaving everyone in its wake to deal with the aftermath.
The room was silent. The kind of silence that weighed heavy on your chest. Keith was angry. I could see it in his clenched. fists and the way his jaw tightened. He turned to me, his eyes cold, filled with a mixture of disappointment and rage.
“I never thought you could be this
heartless,” he said, his voice low but sharp, cutting into me.
I scoffed. Heartless? He was the heartless

one. For treating me like I was invisible, for caring more about Georgia than he ever cared about me. For not even noticing when I was pregnant. For not being there when I lost the child.
But I stayed silent. What was the point?
He stepped closer, his voice rising, the anger spilling out of him. “The least you could do after you stole me from her was to give her your bone marrow! It’s as simple as that. But no, you‘ re so self–centered. So. pitiful.”
My chest tightened. His words felt like blows, one after another.
He didn’t stop there. His voice grew louder. “You‘ ve always been like this. Always thinking about yourself. You could have saved her! But you refused, just because of your ego!”
Before I could respond, he turned away from me and went to Georgia. She lay there, weak, pretending like she was some

fragile angel. Without hesitation, he scooped her up in his arms, carrying her bridal–style.
My throat tightened as I watched him. He didn’t even look back as he stormed out
of the building, leaving me there. Just me
and Becca.
The tears I had been holding in finally poured out. They rolled down my cheeks, hot and heavy. I tried to stop them, but they just kept coming. I didn’t know why I was crying. I should‘ ve been used to this by now.

of that place. I went back to the house, hoping for some peace.
But as soon as I stepped inside, my heart dropped. Keith was there. He should‘ ve been at work, but he wasn’t. He was sitting in the living room, and when he saw me, he stood up immediately.
His face was unreadable at first, but as I looked closer, I saw it–anger. Pure anger.
I froze.
Before I could say anything, he threw something at me. A piece of paper. It landed at my feet, and I picked it up with shaky hands. My eyes scanned the words, and my breath caught.
It was my pregnancy test.
I remembered that day so clearly. I had tucked the result into the drawer, planning to tell him the good news. But there was no good news anymore. My baby never got the

“How could you hide something like this from me?” he barked, his voice echoing through the room.
I looked at him, my heart breaking all over again. I didn’t have the energy to fight him. Not anymore. So I stayed quiet.
“Answer me!” he shouted, stepping closer.
But I couldn’t. What was the point? He
wouldn’t understand. He never did.
I turned to walk away, but he grabbed my arm, his grip firm, stopping me in my
tracks.
“I’m talking to you,” he said, his voice low and demanding. “Why didn‘ t you tell me we were expecting a child? I need an
answer. Now.”
