She reluctantly gave me all the video footage
from the start of the school year.
Back in my car, I pulled out my laptop and
started watching.
At first, everything looked normal, just kids
adjusting to kindergarten.
Then, it started. It didn’t take long before
Tiffany would appear whenever Lily was in the
camera’s frame. She’d yank her hair, and
steal her toys.
This is a great start! Let me know if you’d like
me to continue.

She’d bump into Lily intentionally with her
little chair. But the worst was yesterday:
During outdoor playtime, Lily was about to
come down the slide, and Tiffany pushed her
from behind. She tumbled all the way down.
Luckily, it was a small slide for the younger
kids, but seeing her fall like that still made my
heart jump into my throat. When Lily told me
about it, I hadn’t pictured it being that
dangerous. And the teacher was just standing
there like she didn’t see anything! When Lily
went to her, she just patted her on the
shoulder and said it was okay. A three–year-
old being so malicious? This was practically
attempted murder!
I couldn’t wait a second longer. I floored the
gas and sped to the police station. The police
officer took my evidence seriously. School
bullying was a big issue, and this was even
worse because it involved adults and
happened in preschool. They called Tiffany’s
mom, Patricia Miller, right away.
We waited for three hours at the station
before she finally showed up, looking like a
peacock, all ruffled feathers. The first thing
she said was, “Do you people have nothing
better to do? You call me to the station over
this little thing? Don’t you know how busy I
am?”
The officer looked at her, “Ms. Miller, when
we call you to the station, there is a reason.

This issue is pretty bad, and it involves a
minor. As a guardian, you should be here. And
we’re here because of you falsely accusing
Lily of theft, and because your daughter is
showing violence in the school, that caused
harm to Lily.”
“Hold on!” she said, “Watch what you’re
saying! When did I accuse anyone? I just said
my daughter’s missing items showed up on
someone else, where’s the word ‘steal‘ in
there? And violence? They’re kids, they argue
and fight, it’s normal! No one was seriously
hurt! I came to the station out of respect, I’m
a good citizen. I’ll say ‘sorry‘, but that’s it.”
I couldn’t believe how arrogant she was. “A
‘sorry‘ isn’t going to cut it,” I shot back, “I’m
not letting this go. You’re going to pay for
this.”

Patricia turned to me, hands on her hips, “Oh, yeah? I’m not scared of you. My daughter’s just three. Even if she killed that little brat, the law wouldn’t do anything. And we’ve got money. I’ll send her overseas, and after a few
years, no one will remember. My Tiffany will have a bright future.”
