I drank a whole bottle of alcohol, then I went to
the river where I met Jay. I cut my arm, and
watched the blood disappear into the water. It
didn’t even hurt. It would be so good if I could.
just fall asleep.
But I couldn’t.
I woke up in the hospital, Jay was watching me.
His eyes were bloodshot.
<
He said over and over that he would be my
savior, just like I was his.
I couldn’t say anything. My illness got worse. I
dropped out of school. The doctors said I
needed to stay in the hospital.
My foster parents came to see me once. They
gave me three thousand dollars and said that
my brother was starting high school and they
needed money. They didn’t think I was sick, just
thinking too much. They thought that going to
school was useless.
My foster dad got angry, thinking the hospital
was a ripoff. He tried to pull out my IV, saying
that I should just go get a job.
Jay told them to get out. He said that from now
on, he would be my guardian. They sighed and
left.
I wasn’t really aware of anything until my third

month at the hospital when I was finally clear-
headed. Jay was cutting an apple for me. When he got up to throw away the peel, I said, “Jay, I
want them to pay.
Jay stopped, dropped what he was doing,
hugged me, and cried.
And that was when we started planning our
revenge. Jay said that when I was at my worst, I
kept a diary. I made up a twin sister. I wrote the
diary entries as if it was hers. I told my own
story but as someone else.
Jay had spoken to the doctors. They said I had
done it to protect myself. I made a new identity
to take all the pain.
There was no sister. It was always me.
…Before I passed out from lack of oxygen, sirens wailed, and police rushed in. Jay pulled me out of the water and gave me CPR, one

minute, two minutes…. Finally, I spat out the
water.
“Lily, how could you go alone?!” Jay held me,
shaking.
“I sent you a message,” I said.
“If I’d been a few minutes later, you’d be
dead!‘

I patted his arm, wanting to get up.
Sarah and the other girls were on the ground.
The cameras recorded their actions, and the
evidence was clear. I didn’t know what Sarah
had promised those girls, but she had used
them.
Sarah wanted to be the best student in her
grade, but she also wanted to have her way in
everything.

While I was bullied, I would sometimes think
about what an evil person was afraid of.
Luckily, I saw it with my own eyes. Sarah wet
herself. And the other girls were begging for
mercy.
I walked over to Sarah, looked at her, and said,
“Don’t you remember me? I guess there are too
many people you have hurt.”
Jay handed me a hair tie, and I put my hair up,
smiling sweetly. “My name was changed. It was
Zoe, do you remember now?”
Sarah’s face changed. The girls also started
yelling at me.
I leaned against Jay and laughed. I had lost so
much weight at the hospital. My appearance
had changed completely. I also changed my
name.

My foster parents didn’t love me, but they didn’t
abuse me either. I had just made up the whole.
thing so that I could get closer to my real
parents. It worked.
I became a part of the Suttons‘ family and then
told Jay to send my story to my dad. Gradually,
Dad stopped caring about Sarah, and I became.

He couldn’t tell my mom the truth. I
would.
I showed my mom my scars and had her
“accidentally” see my medical diagnosis. I even
showed her the scar on my wrist.
I wasn’t just going to take away her title. I was
going to make her rot in jail.
