Piper must have felt insecure after she saw
Liam at the hospital. She started acting like a
stage 5 clinger, and now she was about to get
engaged to Liam. My parents were thrilled.
Liam was family, and a good match for Piper.
They booked the fanciest hotel in the city and
spent a fortune on decorations. Every
decoration had to be imported because Piper
liked it.
When the golden invitation came to the
hospital, I got a text from Piper.
“Riley, no one will love you, you’re a pathetic
loser”
That’s the kind of thing she would send from a
burner phone. I just ignored it. I didn’t want to
go to the engagement party but then I saw it
was going to be streamed online. Yeah, I was
going to be there.

give them a gift of my own. Everyone came all
dressed up, the women wearing fancy dresses
and the men wearing suits.
I sat in a corner, looking like a homeless
person. Someone thought I was a waiter.
“Hey, you! Get me a glass of champagne now.”
A snobby influencer said, filming with her

the stream, people were attacking me. “Who is
this bum? Can’t she dress properly to an
engagement party?”
“This is a party for the Sullivan family! How did
she get in here? She’s not even a member of the family!”
They were calling me all sorts of names. I felt
numb. That’s when the influencer, fueled by her
internet comments, went and got security to
kick me out.
Piper’s grand entrance got messed up. She
came over to me, her eyes full of tears, “Riley,
you don’t have to come if you don’t want to.
But don’t dress like that to make us look bad. It
makes it look like mom and dad abused you.”
The influencer went quiet. I was a Sullivan? The
comment section went silent for a second, and
then they all started attacking me again.
“Oh wow, Piper has a sister?! She doesn’t look
like a rich heiress. She doesn’t even deserve to
be in the same room as Piper!”
“She’s so jealous! She’s trying to ruin her own sister’s engagement party.”
I stood up, and I stared at Piper, and my
enraged parents, and Liam. “Why are you doing
this? This is not the time or place for this.” My
dad said. “We spoiled you way too much!”
Liam looked at me, “Riley, Piper wanted you to
come and be there to witness her happy
moment. Why are you doing this to her?”
I laughed, “Why would I care about my non-
blood related sister’s happiness?”
My dad slapped me, “How can you say that!
Even if Piper isn’t our biological daughter, she
is much better than you.” My dad continued
“We will make sure that you won’t inherit a
dime from us”
