Chapter 8
“Be good, okay?”
The moment those words left his lips, an icy shiver ran through me.
In an instant, I sank my teeth into his arm, the taste of anger and defiance sharp on my tongue.
He winced, but before I could break free, his grip tightened again faster than I could
react.
I glared up at him, my eyes cold as stone.
“Going back with you? I’d rather die.”
My words cut through the air like a blade, and I saw the effect; his heart seemed to stop.
“You…..”
He was about to speak, but the sudden sound of footsteps interrupted him.

My colleagues, the ones who‘ d been at the party with me, had returned.
Seeing the scene unfold, they shouted in unison, “Who are you? Let her go! Or we’ll call the police!”
Despite their warning, Ruslan remained. unmoved, his grip still firm on me.
But then one of my colleagues stepped forward, pulling out a gun.
They were foreigners, and it was legal for them to carry.
The sight of it made Ruslan hesitate, his jaw clenching in frustration.
But even then, he couldn’t bring himself to let me go.
Without a moment‘ s hesitation, one of my colleagues raised the gun and fired a shot.
The sharp crack of the bullet split the air, and the nearby trash can flipped over, spilling its contents across the pavement.

“If you don’t let go, this bullet might just pierce your heart next,” my colleague warned, his voice cold but steady.
I smirked, feeling a cold rush of satisfaction.
“Ruslan, let’s see if you‘ re bold enough to stare death in the face.”
The words stung, and I could see the shift in Ruslan‘ s eyes, a flicker of pain.
But in the end, his grip faltered, and he slowly released me.
The moment I was free, my colleagues. instinctively formed a protective circle around me.
“Get lost, or you’ll regret it!” one of them growled.
Ruslan raised his hands in surrender, but his eyes never left me, a silent plea in the depths of them.
I met his gaze, my lips barely moving as I mouthed the word “Coward.”

The harsh reality of my words seemed to strike him, and after a long, tense pause, he finally turned and walked away.
After he was gone, my colleagues surrounded me, each of them asking if I was okay.
Their concern warmed my heart, and I quickly shook my head, assuring them I
was fine.
It had been so long since I’d felt this kind
of warmth.
A long time ago, I’d found myself drawn to Ruslan for one simple reason: we were both orphans, abandoned by our families.
at a young age.
After that day, Ruslan never came looking for me again.
A wave of relief washed over me, and I
threw myself into my work, the distraction offering a much–needed escape.
But then, the thought of the divorce

lingered, so I had a mutual friend relay the
message to him.
Not long after, Thea appeared on my doorstep.
The moment I saw her, a familiar frown tugged at my face.
She was the other woman, the one I had never sought out, yet she seemed determined to keep coming after me.
“What do you want?”
I leaned casually against the doorframe, raising an eyebrow in question.
At the sound of my voice, Thea’s composure shattered.
“You wretched woman! Why are you
stealing Ruslan from me? Because of you, he’s abandoned me and our child!”
Her words came out like venom.
“You‘ re a homewrecker! You deserve a horrible death!”

My gaze instinctively dropped to her rounded belly.
She was at least six months pregnant; suddenly, everything made sense.
“I don‘ t even want Ruslan anymore, and I have no intention of competing with you. If you want him, take him,” I said flatly, my voice cold and detached.
Though my words were clear, Thea‘ s expression didn’t change.
She looked around frantically before launching herself at me, her nails aimed straight at my face.
Before I could even react, Ruslan appeared out of nowhere.
With a single, swift motion, he slapped Thea hard across the face, sending her crashing to the ground.
Her face flushed bright red, and she stumbled, disoriented.
The entire scene unfolded so quickly that I

barely had time to comprehend it.
And just as fast, Ruslan was cursing at Thea, his voice a thunderous roar of fury.
