- 9.
Mark straightens up and his eyes light up.
く
He’s happy. “Sarah, give me a chance to help
you remember. If you remember, you’ll come
back to me.”
I stare at him. “Why are you so sure that I will
take you back? You divorced me, and you
married Ashley. I’m not sure I can forgive
you.”
وو
Mark takes a step back.
He looks away from me.
But he sounds sure of himself. “Sarah, if you
remember everything, you’ll come back to
me.”
I don’t call him out. “I’ll give you one week. If
you can’t win me back, leave me alone.”
L
Mark says, “Can I have a month?”
I frown. “I’m not going to argue with you. I
don’t want to waste my time on you. And
you’re running out of time, too. If you keep
bothering me, there will be consequences.”
Mark bites his lip.
I try to close the door.
He stops it. “Okay.”
He looks at me.
His eyes are full of love and hope.
He grabs my hand and takes me to all the
places we used to go.
く
He fell in love with me the first time he saw
- me.
He went out of his way to get close to me.
Unlike other rich guys, he didn’t use money or
power.
He found out what I liked, and we talked
about it.
I like bubble tea, sweets, lavender, video
games, my favorite color, what I believed…
He knew everything.
When I talked to him, I thought we were soulmates.
I dropped my guard, and I liked him.
く
He was like a net, trapping me.
When I fell in love with him, I couldn’t escape.
After three years, I noticed he wasn’t as good
as I thought he was.
But I thought it was normal.
I thought if you love someone, you have to
accept their bad side.
But Mark was worse than I thought.
I listened to him talk about the past.
I just stared at him.
He looked away, like he was ashamed.
I couldn’t feel anything.
He started to cry.
He showed me the photos on his phone.
Then he showed me photos of him and
Ashley.
He looked panicked and put the phone away.
“Sarah, I…”
I asked, “Ashley was your ex, right? You
broke up and got back together for five years.
Why didn’t you stay with her?”
