Five years ago, we registered our marriage but postponed the wedding when my company assigned me to an overseas project.
Today, standing in front of all our friends and family, I couldn’t believe the spectacle she’d
made of my life.
I stepped off the stage, took off my jacket, and handed it to Hector.
Smiling, I said, “No worries. Since you’ve already got kids, just marry her and live happily as a
Mamily of five.”
I turned to leave, but Maria grabbed my wrist, her eyes red–rimmed.
“Ryan, is this really necessary?” she pleaded.
“Do you have any idea how hard these years were for me? If Hector hadn’t been there for me, I wouldn’t have made it.”
I glared at her in disbelief, but she kept wiping her tears as she continued, “He’s been so
selfless, staying by my side all this time.
I only had his children because I didn’t want him to be alone in the future. That’s all it meant, I
swear.”
Her gaze was filled with expectation, but all I felt was disgust.
“If you care so much about him, why don’t you just go live with him?
Why make a fool out of me like this?”
I yanked my hand from her grip, but before I could walk away, Hector and the three children
fell to their knees in front of me.
“Ryan, please don’t misunderstand!” Hector begged, tears streaming down his face. “I didn’t
come here to ruin your wedding. I just… I was afraid Maria would abandon the kids once she
married you.”
The three children knelt quietly, their eyes red.
“I couldn’t bear the thought of them losing their mother,” Hector continued, his voice cracking
as he glanced longingly at Maria.
Maria suddenly threw herself at them. “Don’t worry. I will never leave you!” she cried,
embracing the children.
Looking up at me, she said, “Ryan, these are my children. Surely, you can…”
Her words were cut off by a sudden shout. “Hector!”
By the time I realized what was happening, Hector had collapsed on the floor, unconscious.
The severity of the situation forced me to halt the wedding. I drove Hector to the myself.

Standing in the hospital room, watching Maria fuss over Hector’s every need, I felt something inside me snap. I couldn’t take it anymore. I called my secretary and asked her to draft divorce
papers.
When Maria received the papers, her eyes immediately filled with tears.

When Maria received the papers, her eyes Immediately filled with tears. “Ryan, what did I do wrong?” she asked. “Why do you want to divorce me?”

“You’re standing here, caring for another man right in front of me, and you have the nerve to ask what you did wrong?” I couldn’t believe her audacity.
“That’s it?” she scoffed. “Have you forgotten the promise you made to me? The one you made when I saved your life?”
Oh, I remembered.
Five years ago, I had a near–fatal allergic reaction during a late–night work dinner. Peanut contamination, they said.
I stumbled to a tree outside, vomiting violently until I collapsed.
When I woke up in the hospital, Maria was there.
Her long hair framed her face as she sat at my bedside, peeling an apple.
The sunlight streaming through the window highlighted her delicate features.
At the time, I was struggling both professionally and emotionally. Her presence felt like the
answer to my prayers.
From that moment on, I pursued her with everything I had.
When we finally registered our marriage, I promised her I’d take care of her for the rest of her life, that I’d give her everything she could ever want.
But on the eve of our wedding, I got the call for an overseas project.
I was promised six million dollars as payment. Out of thousands of employees, my boss had
chosen me.
I wanted to refuse, but Maria insisted I take the opportunity.
Before I left, I spent all my savings on a villa in the city center for her and hired the best housekeeper to look after her.
During those five years, I sent her countless luxury gifts and called her regularly to keep our connection alive.
But despite everything, she still cheated on me.
