Part 19
I was still reeling from Alexander’s words as I
stood outside my apartment door. I couldn’t
understand it. Survival should be the driving
force behind evolution. But werewolves seemed
to be evolving in a strange direction. Mates,
mating seasons, dying without a mate… these
<
were clearly disadvantages, yet they weren’t
being phased out. Instead, they seemed to be
becoming more extreme. It was bizarre. I
couldn’t grasp it.
I stood there for a long time before finally
unlocking the door. Ethan was in his wolf form,
sharing a bag of cookies with Buddy. They
almost started fighting over the last one.
“Ethan.”
The black form froze, then shifted back to
human, looking at me nervously. “Wolf form is
more comfortable. I didn’t know you were
back… I didn’t mean to. I won’t do it again.” He
spoke carefully. “Baby, just treat me like a
human, not a wolf. Werewolf, the ‘wolf‘ part is
just a descriptor. I’m still human… You can’t
reject me because of this.”
He wrung his hands, anxiously awaiting my
response.
I looked at him, my expression complex. “I’m
hungry. Is there any of that food left? After
dinner, I want to ask you something.”
