Part 20
I didn’t actually know what to ask. My mind was
a mess.
The leftover food wasn’t very good, and I wasn’t hungry anyway. I ate a little, then set my chopsticks down. I glanced over to see Ethan happily devouring the strawberry shortcake, stuffing his face with frosting, a look of pure
bliss on his face.
“Baby, this cake is so good! You should try
some!”
I shook my head. I was about to ask if all that frosting was okay for him, but he looked so
happy… I let it go. Werewolves were human
too. He’d be fine.
I pursed my lips. “If your family is so powerful,
why were you injured and by the dumpster in
the first place?”
“My brother’s enemies tried to kidnap me to
threaten him… but it’s all taken care of. You
won’t be involved, baby.” He reassured me.
Then he suddenly leaned in, sniffing me
carefully. “Baby, why do you smell like my
<
brother?”
“I saw him tonight,” I admitted. Then I asked, “Ethan, have you considered what you’ll do if I
refuse to be your mate?”
“If you don’t like me, baby, I’ll just die,” he said with a shrug. “A wolf who can’t win his mate’s
love is useless. There’s no point in living.”
He said the word “die” so casually, as if leaving
this world was no big deal. His casual disregard
for life shocked me again.
